Uber/taxi service

We are probably going to stay 5-15 miles away from town. We would like to be to Uber at night so we can have a drink with dinner. Are there taxi/ Ubers?

Ketchikan is a relatively small town in Alaska, and transportation options are more limited than in larger cities. While rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft do not currently operate in Ketchikan, there are several other ways to get around, especially if you plan to stay 5–15 miles outside of town.

Taxi and Shuttle Services:

  • Local taxi companies: Ketchikan has several taxi services that can pick you up from accommodations outside of town. Examples include Ketchikan Taxi and Rainbird Taxi. It's a good idea to call ahead or schedule a pickup in advance if you are staying outside the town center.
  • Hotel shuttles: Some hotels and lodges outside Ketchikan offer shuttle services to downtown or popular areas, sometimes complimentary or for a small fee.
  • Private car services: You can hire private drivers for evening trips or sightseeing. These are generally reliable and can be arranged in advance for a specific schedule, such as a dinner and return to your lodging.

Other Considerations:

  • Because Ketchikan is small, distances are short, but if you are 5–15 miles outside of town, walking or public buses may not be practical, particularly at night.
  • Public transportation (Ketchikan Area Transit, KAT) does serve some areas, but service can be limited in the evenings.
  • Plan ahead for evening plans, as taxis and private services may require advance booking, especially in the summer cruise season.

Summary:

While Uber is not available, you can rely on local taxi companies, hotel shuttles, and private car services to get you safely into town for dinner and back to your lodging. Advance planning is recommended to ensure availability, particularly if you are staying outside of Ketchikan’s central area.
