Weather end of February?

Hi, I'm coming to Vegas at the end of February, mainly for the NRL. I've also booked a day trip out to the Grand Canyon. I'm trying to get my head around the temperatures. Should I expect it to be shorts or jeans/ trousers weather? And I guess a light jacket for evening? Thanks

At the end of February, Las Vegas weather is generally mild, but it can vary depending on the time of day. During the day, temperatures typically range from the low 50s to mid-60s°F (around 10-20°C), which is comfortable for light outdoor activities. However, since it’s a desert, temperatures can dip significantly once the sun sets, often dropping to the 30s or 40s°F (around 4-9°C). So, it's best to prepare for both warm and cool weather.

  • Daytime: You can expect to wear shorts or jeans/ trousers during the day, especially if you're enjoying outdoor activities like exploring the Strip or visiting attractions. The weather is generally comfortable and sunny, but you might want to bring a light sweater or long-sleeve shirt for cooler mornings or evenings.
  • Evening: Temperatures drop quickly after sunset, so it's definitely recommended to have a light jacket or sweater for the evenings, especially if you're planning to walk around or go out to a show. A medium-weight jacket should suffice, as it can get chilly but is not too extreme.
  • Grand Canyon Day Trip: If you're heading to the Grand Canyon for your day trip, keep in mind that temperatures there can be much cooler, especially if you're going to the South Rim, which sits at a higher elevation. Expect temperatures to be in the 30s or 40s°F (around 0-5°C) at the rim, with possible snow or wind. It's advisable to wear layers—such as a long-sleeve shirt, jacket, and warm layers underneath—and to bring gloves and a hat just in case. Sturdy shoes are also recommended, especially if you're doing any walking around the rim or down to viewpoints.

In summary:

  • For daytime in Vegas, bring comfortable clothes like shorts or jeans.
  • For evenings, a light jacket or sweater will keep you warm.
  • For the Grand Canyon, be prepared for cooler temperatures, even cold, with layers and warm accessories like gloves and a hat.

Enjoy your trip to Vegas and the Grand Canyon! It’s always a good idea to check the weather forecast closer to your travel dates to make sure you’re packing appropriately.
