Transfer to Seward from Anchorage
My husband and I are flying into Anchorage in June. We need a transfer to Seward, our first couple of nights will be spent there. Our flight arrives at 12 in the afternoon. Is there a bus that picks up from the airport or do we have to taxi to another location? The time schedules seem very limited. We don't want to spend a lot of money on a private service. Our daughter will be arriving late at night and she will be getting a rental car so rental car for us is out also. TIA
Traveling from Anchorage to Seward is a common route for visitors, but public transportation options are limited, especially for midday arrivals. There are a few ways to get to Seward without renting a car or paying for a fully private transfer.
Here are the main options:
- Private shuttle services: Companies like Alaska SeaBus or Seward Shuttle offer scheduled transfers from Anchorage to Seward. Most of these pick up from downtown Anchorage rather than directly from the airport, so you would need to take a taxi or rideshare from the airport to the shuttle pickup location. Prices are generally lower than a fully private car service.
- Airport taxi or rideshare to pickup location: Since shuttles usually do not pick up directly at the airport, a short taxi or Uber/Lyft ride from Anchorage Airport to the shuttle office or downtown pick-up area is necessary. This is fairly inexpensive compared to booking a private transfer for the full distance.
- Timing considerations: Many shuttle services have limited schedules, often with morning departures and perhaps one or two afternoon runs. Since your flight arrives at noon, you will need to check the afternoon shuttle times carefully and may need to plan for a short wait in Anchorage if the next shuttle is not immediately after your arrival.
Additional tips:
- Book your shuttle in advance, especially for June, which is peak tourist season in Alaska.
- Confirm the pickup location and any requirements, such as checking in at the office or arriving a few minutes early.
- If your daughter arrives late at night with a rental car, she could pick you up from Anchorage if shuttle timing doesn’t work or if you prefer a more flexible option.
- Carry small luggage you can manage yourself, as shuttle space can be limited and overhead storage may be tight.
In summary, there is no regular public bus that picks up directly from Anchorage Airport to Seward. The most cost-effective option is to take a taxi or rideshare to a shuttle pickup point and then take a scheduled shuttle to Seward. Plan your timing carefully, book ahead, and consider coordination with your daughter’s arrival if needed for extra flexibility.
