stand up paddle board rental in mid-February
Hi, there. I found one group that rents stand up paddle boards both for the Salt River and a lake that starts with an "S". I would like a personal recommendation for a place that would rent to 2 adults in mid-February. We will have a car rental and we will be based near a friend who lives close to Chandler. Also, we have wetsuits if it's cold.
Thanks!
Mid-February in the Phoenix area can be a bit chilly for stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), especially on rivers and lakes, but with wetsuits, you should be comfortable. There are several reputable rental options within a reasonable drive from Chandler, both on the Salt River and on nearby lakes.
Recommended SUP Rental Options:
- Salt River Tubing & SUP Rental: Located near Mesa, they rent stand-up paddleboards and provide safety gear. The river sections are calm and scenic, and with your wetsuits, the cooler February water should be fine.
- Saguaro Lake Paddle Sports: This is likely the lake you mentioned starting with “S.” They rent SUP boards and kayaks, and the lake is relatively calm. It’s a scenic area with good wildlife viewing and fairly accessible from Chandler.
- Scottsdale Paddleboard Co: They provide rentals and guided tours on both lakes and calm river sections. They have experience renting to small groups and can advise on conditions in February.
Tips for February Paddling:
- Water temperatures can be quite cool, so wearing your wetsuit is recommended.
- Mid-day is usually warmer and sunnier; try to schedule rentals around 10am–2pm.
- Check weather forecasts and water conditions, especially on the Salt River, as flow can vary with winter rains.
- Call ahead to reserve boards and confirm availability, as some rental shops may have limited winter hours.
With a car from Chandler, all these locations are within a 30–60 minute drive. Saguaro Lake offers a more relaxed paddleboarding experience with beautiful scenery, while the Salt River offers a classic Arizona river experience. Either way, it should be a fun activity for two adults even in mid-February.
