Cabana Bay
We are considering a package that would put us in a family room at Cabana Bay. While the room layout sounds nice, and overall it gets decent reviews, I would love to know recent experiences. I've read the beds are extremely uncomfortable, they allow smoking all over, rooms are dirty, etc. I'd appreciate any guidance before I book. Thanks.
Cabana Bay Beach Resort at Universal Orlando is a moderately priced, retro-themed hotel designed with families in mind. The family rooms are spacious, often with two queen beds plus a pull-out sofa or a separate sleeping area for kids, making it convenient for larger groups or families. Overall, it remains popular due to its proximity to Universal Studios and Volcano Bay, as well as its fun mid-century decor.
Recent guest experiences vary, and it's worth considering both pros and cons:
- Room comfort: Some guests report that the beds can feel firm or slightly uncomfortable, especially for taller adults. If you prioritize a softer bed, bringing a topper or requesting a room change could help.
- Cleanliness: Most rooms are clean upon check-in, but some visitors have noted inconsistencies with housekeeping, particularly in high-occupancy periods. Common issues include dust or minor maintenance needs. Reading recent reviews close to your travel date helps gauge current standards.
- Smoking: Cabana Bay is officially a non-smoking property, but smoking is allowed in designated outdoor areas. Some guests have mentioned noticing smoke near entrances or patios, so if sensitivity to smoke is a concern, request a room far from smoking areas.
- Amenities and perks: The resort has multiple pools, a lazy river, a kids’ water play area, and a bowling alley, which are highlights for families. Complimentary shuttle service to Universal theme parks is convenient. Dining options on-site include a food court and quick-service restaurants.
- Atmosphere: The retro theme is fun and casual, appealing to families and younger travelers. Noise can vary depending on the season and location of your room (pool-facing rooms can be louder).
Tips from recent travelers:
- Request rooms in the newer towers or on higher floors for quieter accommodations.
- Bring any personal items for comfort, like pillows or a mattress topper, if you are sensitive to firmer beds.
- Check-in early or use mobile check-in to select your preferred room location.
- Consider eating at the resort early or at nearby CityWalk locations to avoid peak dining times.
In summary, Cabana Bay is still a solid option for families looking for a convenient, moderately priced resort with fun amenities. While beds and occasional cleanliness concerns have been mentioned, most families find the location, room layout, and amenities outweigh these issues. Booking with recent reviews in mind and requesting a room suited to your preferences can make for a pleasant stay.
