Golf cart

Hi there we will be visiting in mid April. We have 3 families (children) will be traveling with. Is it recommended to rent golf cart or is this a walkable town with children. We intend to sightsee, shop and explore the town. Thank you

Catalina Island, particularly the town of Avalon, is relatively small and quite walkable. Many visitors enjoy exploring on foot, especially since the main streets, shops, and waterfront attractions are concentrated within a compact area. Walking is also convenient if you have children, as you can stop frequently for shops, restaurants, or scenic views.

However, renting a golf cart can be a fun and practical option for families with children, especially if you want to cover more ground, explore areas beyond the main town, or if you have strollers or small kids who might tire easily. Golf carts are allowed on the streets of Avalon and are a popular way to get around for both sightseeing and practical transport.

Consider the following points when deciding:

  • Walking: Ideal for leisurely sightseeing, shopping, and enjoying the waterfront. No parking concerns and easy for children to navigate.
  • Golf Cart Rental: Provides flexibility to explore hillier or more spread-out areas, can be faster than walking, and is fun for kids who enjoy the novelty. Be mindful of traffic rules and cart limitations.
  • Combination: Some families choose to walk in the main town but rent a golf cart for a couple of hours to visit scenic viewpoints or beaches outside of Avalon.

Additional tips:

  • Reserve golf carts in advance if traveling mid-April, as rentals can fill up quickly on weekends and holidays.
  • Keep children seated and follow all local rules for golf cart operation.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for walking if you plan to explore on foot; some streets are hilly.

Overall, Avalon is very family-friendly and manageable on foot, but renting a golf cart adds convenience and can enhance the experience for children and adults alike, especially if you want to explore beyond the central area.
