South station- Subway to Bus

I am starting a new job in Boston and will reach South Station on a bus- Boston Express-Nashua line. I have to take the Red Line subway. Can someone please tell me how much of a walk is it to the red line from the bus terminal?

I tried to find the station map, but don't see it anywhere.

Welcome to Boston and congratulations on your new job! If you’re coming to South Station from the Boston Express-Nashua line, the walk to the Red Line subway is very straightforward.

South Station is a major transportation hub in Boston, and the Red Line subway is located just downstairs from the bus terminal. Here's what you can expect:

  • Walk to the Subway: After getting off your bus, you'll exit the bus terminal and head towards the building's interior. Follow the signs to the Red Line subway, which is located just a short walk from where the buses drop you off. The walk is only about 2-3 minutes.
  • Subway Entrance: The entrance to the Red Line is located in the lower level of the station. You will go down an escalator or take an elevator to reach the platform. Follow the directional signs, which are well-marked throughout the station.
  • Overall Distance: The walk is very manageable, about 150 feet or so, depending on the crowds. There’s no need to exit the station building or walk far to get to the subway.

Once you get to the Red Line, you can catch either the Ashmont or Alewife direction, depending on where you need to go.

If you have heavy luggage or need extra assistance, there are elevators and escalators to help you get to the subway platform. The station is well-equipped for accessibility.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your commute in Boston!
