202 bus from Cruise terminal to airport

I will be disembarking in NOLA after cruise in October. I've not cruised to NO before. I'm hoping someone local may know the feasibility of walking from the port to the bus terminal to take bus 202 to airport. I'll have either carry-on only, or possibly a 24" suitcase. I'm also considering Uber, especially if the weather isnt good for a short walk. I've been told by a friend that traffic and finding an uber from the port isn't easy, so any tips for where to meet up with uber also appreciated.

Walking from the cruise terminal to the bus stop for the 202 bus is technically possible, but it might not be the most comfortable or convenient option, especially if you're carrying luggage. The distance between the cruise terminal (Erato Street Cruise Terminal) and the bus stop for the 202 (located near the Westin Hotel or other bus terminals) is about a half-mile to a mile, which can take around 10-20 minutes to walk depending on your pace. If you only have a small carry-on bag, it might be manageable, but if you have a larger suitcase, it could be a bit more cumbersome, particularly in the heat or humidity of New Orleans in October.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Walking to the Bus Stop: The walk is not particularly scenic, and it involves walking along industrial streets, which might not be the most enjoyable experience, especially with luggage. However, if you're okay with walking and it's not too hot, it's doable.
  • Taking Uber or Lyft: This is a popular option for many passengers. However, as you've heard, it can be a bit tricky to catch an Uber from the cruise terminal due to traffic and the large number of passengers disembarking at the same time. The cruise terminal area can get congested, and it might take a little while to find an available ride.
  • Uber Pickup Tips: If you're planning to use Uber, there are designated pickup spots near the cruise terminal. It's recommended to head to the area marked for ride-sharing pickups (which is usually a short walk from the terminal exit) rather than trying to hail one directly from the terminal. You can follow signs or ask a port worker for directions to the rideshare pickup point. It's also helpful to check the Uber app for availability before you walk out, so you can time your exit to avoid waiting in line.
  • Public Transport (Bus 202): The 202 bus is a cost-effective option, but it may not be the most convenient if you have a lot of luggage. It operates from the cruise terminal area, and buses generally run every 30-45 minutes. It's a simple route that will take you directly to the airport, but be prepared for a potentially crowded bus if there are other cruise passengers using it.

If you're unsure about walking with luggage or navigating the bus system, you may want to consider taking a taxi or an Uber from the cruise terminal directly to the airport. This might be a bit more expensive but will save you time and effort. Alternatively, if you feel comfortable with public transportation and your luggage is manageable, the bus 202 is a budget-friendly option.

In summary, if the weather is pleasant and you're comfortable walking, the bus 202 is an option, but I would lean toward taking an Uber if you want a smoother, more direct experience. Either way, you should plan to leave the terminal a bit earlier to account for any potential delays, especially with finding transportation from the port.
