Longsheng rice terrace
Hello I like to visit the Longsheng rice terrace by taking a day tour from Guilin and back to Guilin by end the day? - is there a lot of walking or climbing up the rice fields? Usually how long one spent time at the rice terrace? Thank you
The Longsheng Rice Terraces, also known as the Dragon’s Backbone, are located about 100 km from Guilin city center and can be visited as a day trip. Most day tours depart Guilin early in the morning and return in the evening, typically lasting around 10–12 hours including travel time.
Regarding walking and climbing:
- Visiting the terraces involves a fair amount of walking, including some uphill and downhill paths along the rice fields. The degree of climbing depends on which village or viewing platform you choose (Ping’an Village is the most famous and has moderate steps; Dazhai Village is larger with more climbing).
- The paths are generally well-maintained, but comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.
- Many tours offer optional shuttle rides or local porters in some sections if you prefer to reduce physical exertion.
Time spent at the rice terraces:
- Most visitors spend around 2–3 hours walking around the terraces, taking photos, and visiting local minority villages.
- If you wish to do a longer hike, explore multiple terraces, or interact with local Zhuang and Yao communities, you could spend 4–5 hours in total.
- Lunch breaks are usually included in day tours, often at a local restaurant or village eatery.
In summary, a day tour from Guilin is feasible and commonly done, but be prepared for moderate walking and some climbing. Choosing a tour that matches your fitness level and preferred pace is advisable to enjoy the scenic views comfortably.
