lunch spot on Tamiami Trail

Looking for somewhere to stop for lunch along 41 between our airboat excursion and our Everglades tram ride. Our western-most stop will be the Ochopee post office, so somewhere near or east of there would be ideal. Is there anything? Thanks for any suggestions! (Or please let me know if there's a better local forum for this question--I wasn't sure which city would be best.)

It sounds like you're planning a great day in the Everglades, and you're right to look for a lunch spot along Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41) between your airboat excursion and tram ride. There are several places near or east of Ochopee that offer a nice variety of options. Here are a few local favorites to consider:

  • Everglades City Seafood - Located in Everglades City, this local seafood restaurant is a great stop for a casual lunch. They offer fresh local seafood, including fish, shrimp, and of course, stone crab when in season. It's a laid-back spot with a real "old Florida" vibe, perfect for refueling before heading to your tram ride. It's just a short drive east of the Ochopee Post Office and provides a good selection of dishes in a relaxed setting.
  • Shark Valley Tram Tour Café - If you’re near the Shark Valley area, this café is an easy stop right by the tram tour station. While it’s not a big, fancy restaurant, it offers simple lunch options like sandwiches, snacks, and cold drinks. It's convenient for visitors who are short on time and want a quick, easy bite before heading out for the tram ride.
  • The Islander Restaurant - Located a bit farther east near the intersection of 41 and 29, The Islander is a great spot for lunch with a variety of American and seafood dishes. This restaurant offers a nice outdoor seating area, making it a good spot to relax and enjoy a meal before continuing your adventures. It's casual but has a great selection of food and drinks, and it’s often a local favorite.
  • Triad Seafood Market & Café - Situated in the heart of Everglades City, this casual seafood spot offers freshly prepared seafood dishes, and you can even pick up fresh fish or shrimp to take home. It’s perfect for a light lunch, especially if you’re in the mood for fresh local seafood. The setting is low-key, and it’s great for a quick stop to grab a bite to eat.
  • Miccosukee Restaurant - If you're willing to head a little further east towards the Miccosukee Indian Village, their restaurant serves a variety of hearty meals, from classic American dishes to more unique offerings. This could be a good option if you're looking for a more substantial meal. The restaurant has a unique atmosphere and is located along Tamiami Trail, offering easy access on your route.

Each of these spots has its own charm, but if you're looking for something quick and easy, the Everglades City Seafood and Shark Valley Tram Tour Café are your best bets. If you have a bit more time and want to experience some local seafood, the Islander and Triad Seafood Market are great choices.

Enjoy your time in the Everglades and have a great lunch along the way!
