Revised itinerary/240 TFV

Hi,

I have replanned my itinerary so I can quality for 240 free visa, I just need confirmation that it's right.

UK citizen flying from London to HK and staying 5 nights, flying to Beijing and staying for 3/4 & getting train to Shanghai for last 5 nights then flying back to London.

Will that work??

Based on the itinerary you provided, it appears you are planning the following:

  • Fly from London to Hong Kong and stay 5 nights.
  • Fly from Hong Kong to Beijing and stay 3–4 nights.
  • Take a train from Beijing to Shanghai and stay 5 nights before flying back to London.

Regarding the 240-hour visa-free transit (TFV) in China:

  • The 240-hour TFV is only applicable for specific cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Tianjin, Shenyang, Xi’an, Wuhan, Dalian, Hangzhou, Qingdao, and Shijiazhuang. Hong Kong is not part of this scheme; it has separate visa rules, but UK citizens usually do not need a visa for short stays in Hong Kong.
  • For the TFV in Beijing, Shanghai, or other eligible cities, your itinerary is generally acceptable as long as your stay in each eligible city does not exceed 240 hours and you remain within the allowed city/region.
  • The TFV only applies to arrivals from international flights. Transfers from Hong Kong to Beijing count as an international arrival for Beijing, so your plan should qualify.
  • Ensure your train from Beijing to Shanghai departs within the 240-hour limit if you are entering Shanghai on the TFV there as well, although the TFV is counted separately per city.

Additional points to consider:

  • Have all confirmed hotel bookings ready, as immigration officers may ask for them.
  • Keep onward/return tickets handy for verification.
  • Check the latest regulations before traveling, as TFV rules may change.

In summary, your revised itinerary should work for the 240-hour TFV in Beijing and Shanghai, provided you follow the city-specific rules and remain within the allowed duration in each city. Your Hong Kong stay does not affect the TFV eligibility.
