First day in Savannah trip report

Thursday: chilly!! Strong winds but VERY sunny, so lovely. Last night we had a fabulous dinner at Elizabeth’s on 37th. We ate so much that the lovely breakfast served at The Gastonian the next morning was half eaten. But delicious. We set out to the Visitirs center on foot, enjoying all the homes and squares along the way. I can see why friends have told me Savannah is their favorite city. Get a coupon for $5 off at the Center, for Old Town trolleys. A good way to get a grip on where everything is. I sat up front so I could hear the narrative, but it was so loud that I listened with my fingers in my ears! Along the way I circled what I wanted to see the next day. Afterwards, we went to the SCAD Museum of Art, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Amazing, beautiful and unique! Rather small, which was perfect for us. Walked back a different way. Met someone in one of the squares who told us lots of history, and all about the Spanish Moss (don’t touch it! Bugs inside!) and the Rejuvenation Ferns on the branches of the Live Oaks. (Look it up, my post is already too long! ) Still satisfied from last night’s dinner, we took a nap until 5 pm when The Gastonian serves hors d’œuvres and wine. That did us for dinner! Met some other guests, which was fun. Early to bed! We are loving the gas fireplace in our room, and the super comfortable king size bed. And the separate sinks!

It sounds like you had an amazing first day in Savannah! The chilly weather and strong winds couldn't stop you from enjoying the sunny day and all the charm Savannah has to offer. Starting with a delicious dinner at Elizabeth’s on 37th is a great choice—it's well-known for its Southern cuisine and charming atmosphere. It’s understandable that breakfast the next morning at The Gastonian was a bit much after such a satisfying meal!

The walking tour through the city to the Visitor Center seems like a perfect introduction to Savannah. The squares and beautiful homes really set the tone for what makes this city so beloved by many. The $5 discount on the Old Town Trolley is a great tip! Even if the narration was a bit loud, it’s definitely worth getting an overview of the city before diving deeper into the sights. It’s great that you were able to map out what you wanted to see the next day. The SCAD Museum of Art sounds like a highlight—it’s a beautiful and unique museum, and its size makes it easy to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed.

It’s always nice when a casual walk through a square leads to meeting friendly locals with interesting tidbits of history to share. The fact about Spanish Moss and Rejuvenation Ferns is fascinating! It’s definitely good advice to keep a safe distance from the moss, as it can sometimes harbor bugs. The mid-afternoon nap sounds like a perfect way to recharge before the evening’s hors d’oeuvres at The Gastonian. It’s such a lovely touch to have wine and snacks in a cozy atmosphere, especially after a day of exploring.

It seems like you’re settling in well at The Gastonian. The gas fireplace and comfortable king-size bed sound like the perfect way to wind down after a busy day of sightseeing. And the separate sinks are always a nice bonus when traveling with a partner!

Overall, it seems like you’re off to a wonderful start in Savannah. I’m sure your next few days will be just as memorable. Enjoy the rest of your trip, and I hope you find even more hidden gems in this beautiful city!
