East fork transit pick up

I will be staying in the Savage campsite while in Denali. I have reserved the East Fork transit bus but I’m unclear as to whether I need to go back to the park entrance to catch it or if I can get on near my campsite. Any help appreciated

When using the East Fork Transit in Denali National Park, it’s important to know how the shuttle system works, especially when you’re staying at a backcountry site like Savage River Campground.

The East Fork Transit bus is part of the park’s shuttle system that runs along the Park Road, primarily serving hikers, backpackers, and campers accessing the East Fork area. However, unlike some front-country shuttle stops, it does not pick up directly from individual campsites.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • You will not be picked up directly at Savage River Campground.
  • You must walk or arrange transport to the nearest official bus stop along the Park Road. The primary stop for East Fork access is at the East Fork parking area or other designated East Fork trailheads.
  • The shuttle schedule and pick-up points are fixed, so make sure you know the departure times from the official stops.

Additional tips:

  • Check the official shuttle schedule ahead of time and plan your hike or arrival at the stop accordingly.
  • If you have heavy gear or lots of supplies, allow extra time to reach the pick-up point from your campsite.
  • Carry a map or ask the campground rangers for the exact walking route from Savage to the nearest shuttle stop.

In summary, you will need to go to the designated East Fork shuttle stop to board the bus; there is no direct pick-up from Savage campsite itself.
