Spring break

I have an VRBO rented in March and am wondering if Daytona is recommended with the spring breakers. Two adults coming for some sun and relaxation and do not want to deal with college students. Are we in the wrong place, open to recommendations. Cocoa Beach is sold out. Thank you!

Daytona Beach in March, particularly during spring break, tends to attract a large number of college students and young adults looking for parties and beach activities. While the northern part of the beach and quieter residential areas can be more peaceful, the main strip near the Daytona Beach Boardwalk, hotels, and bars is usually lively and crowded during this time.

If your goal is sun and relaxation without the spring break crowd, Daytona may not be the ideal location. That said, there are ways to minimize exposure to the more boisterous areas:

  • Stay in quieter neighborhoods slightly away from the main beachfront strip. Rentals on the southern or northern ends of the beach may be calmer.
  • Consider visiting the beach early in the morning or later in the afternoon when spring breakers tend to be less active.
  • Focus on activities like quiet beach walks, nature trails, or visiting nearby state parks such as Tomoka State Park or Spruce Creek Park for a more relaxed experience.

Alternative nearby options for a more peaceful spring getaway:

  • New Smyrna Beach: Just south of Daytona, this beach has a more laid-back vibe with fewer college crowds and charming local shops and restaurants.
  • St. Augustine beaches: About 45 minutes north, St. Augustine offers quieter beaches and historic attractions. Even if your focus is relaxation, the atmosphere is less spring-break centric.
  • Vero Beach or Melbourne Beach: These Atlantic coast towns have smaller crowds, quieter beaches, and boutique accommodations ideal for a couple seeking a peaceful retreat.

In summary, if avoiding spring break chaos is your priority, Daytona Beach can be risky unless you carefully select a rental in a quieter section and plan beach visits strategically. Exploring nearby beaches slightly farther from Daytona may provide a more relaxing and adult-friendly experience.
