Rooftop bar with great views

Hi all. I’m looking for some recommendations for a rooftop bar with great harbour views that doesn’t have a minimum spend. It can be in Hong Kong Island or Kowloon.

I’ve found some really lovely bars but they have minimum spends which we wouldn’t meet. My wife doesn’t drink and I would only have 2-3 drinks.

Thanks in advance.

Finding a rooftop bar in Hong Kong with stunning harbour views that doesn’t enforce a minimum spend can be a bit tricky, as many of the iconic spots, especially in Central and Tsim Sha Tsui, have minimum charges to secure a table. However, there are still some options where you can enjoy great views without being pressured to spend a lot.

Here are some recommendations:

  • Ozone Bar – Ritz-Carlton, Kowloon: While it’s one of the highest bars in the world, it tends to have a minimum spend at peak times. Outside peak hours, you may be able to just order a few drinks. Worth checking directly.
  • Sky Lounge, Novotel Nathan Road, Kowloon: Offers a rooftop view of the harbour with a casual atmosphere and generally no enforced minimum spend. Drinks are reasonably priced compared to luxury hotels.
  • Ce La Vi, Central: Located above the L’hotel Causeway Bay or other locations, some branches have free access to the bar area with no minimum spend, though seating by the edge may require a booking.
  • Sevva, Central: While mainly a dining spot, casual drinks on the terrace during off-peak hours are possible without a minimum spend. The harbour and city skyline views are excellent.
  • Rooftop bars in boutique hotels: Many smaller hotels have rooftop lounges accessible without a minimum spend. Examples include hotel bars in Sheung Wan or Tsim Sha Tsui with less formal policies.

Tips to maximize your experience:

  • Visit early in the evening or weekdays to avoid peak crowds and minimum spend policies.
  • If your wife doesn’t drink, ordering a mocktail or soft drink is usually enough to secure access.
  • Check the bar’s social media or call ahead to confirm policies on minimum spend, especially if you plan to sit at prime view tables.
  • Some outdoor terraces in hotels allow casual visits without table reservations, offering excellent views for photos even if you just have one drink each.

Overall, while iconic rooftop bars often enforce minimum spends, there are still several hidden gems and boutique hotel rooftops where you can enjoy the harbour views with just a couple of drinks. Planning for early evenings or weekdays usually helps avoid restrictions and crowds.
