? Re: Restaurants by Holiday Inn Express Airport (MCO)

We won't be getting to our hotel until (hopefully) about 7:30 PM on a Saturday evening. We'll be staying at the Holiday Inn Express Airport location and I'm wondering if there are some mid-level type restaurants that are not just fast food places within a very easy walking distance from the hotel? (Especially interested in seafood or Cuban cuisine, but not limited to those).

Thank you for any information.

It's great to hear that you're staying near the Orlando Airport! There are several good dining options within a short distance from the Holiday Inn Express Airport, with a variety of cuisines including seafood and Cuban. While some places might be a bit further than a 5-minute walk, they're still easily accessible by a quick drive or ride. Here are some recommendations for mid-level restaurants:

Seafood Options:

  • Bonefish Grill – Located just a short drive from the Holiday Inn Express, Bonefish Grill offers a nice selection of fresh seafood in a comfortable, mid-range setting. It's a popular chain, known for their Bang Bang Shrimp and various fish dishes. It’s about a 5-minute drive from the hotel.
  • The Crab Shack – A local favorite for seafood lovers, The Crab Shack specializes in fresh seafood and has a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Although it may require a quick drive, it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in the mood for crab, shrimp, and other seafood favorites.

Cuban and Latin Cuisine:

  • Viva La Cuba – A bit further from the hotel, but still very accessible by car, this Cuban restaurant serves a variety of traditional Cuban dishes, including Cuban sandwiches, ropa vieja, and lechón. The vibrant atmosphere and delicious food make it a solid choice for Cuban cuisine enthusiasts.
  • Mi Tomatina – This casual spot offers both Cuban and Spanish dishes. While not exactly in walking distance, it’s about a 10-minute drive away and is known for its hearty portions and flavorful dishes like Cuban sandwiches, empanadas, and seafood paella.

Other Mid-Range Options Near the Airport:

  • Sharkey's Bar & Grill – A laid-back, seafood-friendly restaurant with a good variety of options, including burgers and salads. Sharkey’s is popular for its tropical drinks and beachy vibe, offering a mix of seafood and American fare. It’s just a few minutes away from your hotel by car.
  • The Capital Grille – If you're in the mood for something a little more upscale, The Capital Grille is a well-known chain that serves excellent steaks, seafood, and cocktails in a polished but not overly formal setting. It's around a 10-minute drive from the hotel.
  • El Caribe – For a quick Cuban bite close by, El Caribe is a low-key Cuban eatery serving delicious sandwiches, plates, and Cuban coffee. It's casual and good for a quick, satisfying meal if you’re in the area.

Late-Night Options: Since you’re arriving around 7:30 PM, some restaurants may be getting close to their closing time, but these options should still be available:

  • Wawa – If you're just looking for a quick bite after you arrive, the Wawa convenience store nearby has sandwiches, snacks, and coffee available late into the night. It's not a restaurant, but it could serve as an easy solution if you need something right away.
  • Pei Wei Asian Kitchen – A casual dining spot offering quick, fresh Asian-inspired dishes, Pei Wei is about a 5-minute drive away. They often stay open later and offer a quick, convenient option if you're craving something different.

Overall, while there are not too many options that are within easy walking distance, you'll find a variety of great mid-level restaurants in the area that are just a short drive away. Whether you’re in the mood for seafood, Cuban, or something else, you’ll have plenty to choose from!
