Volcano Bay

Hi there, looking for some advice on visiting volcano bay, my self wife and older child will be visiting in June we have park tickets for both universal theme parks and the water park, I think parking at theme park and then getting on a shuttle bus gets us there, but that’s all we know ….looking for advice from folks who have done water parks and what’s the best way to enjoy, being Scottish we will definitely be taking sun lotion and I’ll probably wear a sun/swim top as seriously don’t want to burn, thank you to all who reply.🙂

Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando is a unique water theme park with a lot of attractions for all ages, so planning ahead will help you maximize your day. Since you’ll be visiting in June, it will likely be hot and busy, so preparation is key.

Getting There & Parking

Since you mentioned having tickets for both Universal parks and Volcano Bay, parking is typically at the main Universal parking lot, followed by a shuttle or walking path to Volcano Bay. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Parking: Volcano Bay has its own designated parking area separate from Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. The parking garage is covered and offers quick access to the water park entrance.
  • Shuttle/Walking: If parked in the main Universal garage, there is a walking path directly to Volcano Bay. Some hotels provide shuttle service if you’re staying on-site.
  • Tip: Arrive early to avoid parking congestion, especially in June, which is a busy month for families and summer vacationers.

Entrance & TapuTapu System

  • Volcano Bay uses the TapuTapu wearable wristband system to reserve ride times and make cashless payments. Activate it at the entrance and link it to your ticket or credit card.
  • This allows you to hold a virtual place in line without physically waiting in queues, which is great for planning your day efficiently.

Rides & Attractions

The park is divided into themed areas with different attractions for varying thrill levels. Consider these tips:

  • For your older child/adults, the thrill rides like Ko’okiri Body Plunge, Kala & Tai Nui Serpentine Body Slides, and Honu ika Moana are popular. Use TapuTapu to reserve times for the big rides early.
  • For more relaxed enjoyment, explore the lazy river (Kopiko Wai Winding River) and wave pool (Waturi Beach). You can reserve a cabana for added comfort, shade, and personal storage.
  • Take advantage of the shaded areas and seating spots around the park to rest periodically.

Food & Drink

  • Volcano Bay has multiple dining locations. Cashless payment with TapuTapu makes it easy to order and pay.
  • Pack snacks and water if desired, but there are plenty of food options inside the park — pizza, burgers, tacos, and tropical drinks.

Sun Protection

  • Since you’re Scottish and want to avoid burning, bring high SPF sunscreen, a sun/swim top, and a hat.
  • Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours or after swimming. There are shaded areas and cabanas available to give your skin a break from the sun.

Additional Tips

  • Arrive early to experience popular attractions before the crowds build.
  • Use TapuTapu to reserve ride times strategically for high-demand rides while enjoying more relaxed areas in the meantime.
  • Consider taking breaks for snacks, water, or a brief rest in the shade to keep energy levels up, especially in June heat.
  • Bring a waterproof bag or locker for personal items and valuables. Lockers are available at various sizes and locations.

With these tips, your visit should be fun and manageable, combining thrilling rides for your older child with relaxing areas to enjoy the sun, water, and tropical theming without overexertion or sunburn.
