Beijing bike share

Are there kid sized bikes at any of the bike share docks throughout the city? If not what about tandems?

Thank you!

Beijing has a very extensive bike-sharing network, including popular companies like Mobike (Meituan Bike), HelloBike, and Ofo (though Ofo is much less common now). These services primarily focus on standard single-rider adult bikes, and the majority of docks throughout the city do not carry specialized bikes such as kid-sized bicycles or tandems.

Kid-sized bikes are generally not available in public bike-sharing programs in Beijing. The bikes are designed for average adult riders, and their minimum size and weight requirements make them unsuitable for younger children. Families typically need to bring their own children’s bikes or rent from specialized shops.

Tandem bikes are also not part of the mainstream bike-sharing fleet. Tandems are usually only available through private rental shops or organized cycling tours rather than public bike docks. These can sometimes be found near parks or popular tourist cycling areas like the Olympic Forest Park or Houhai Lake area.

For families looking to cycle together, the best options are:

  • Rent a children’s bike from a dedicated bike rental shop rather than relying on dock-based sharing bikes.
  • Bring your own child bike or tandem if possible.
  • Look for specialized bike tour operators that provide family-friendly bikes, including tandems, in areas such as the Summer Palace, Olympic Forest Park, or along the 798 Art District.

It’s also worth noting that Beijing has wide cycling lanes and bike-friendly routes in many districts, which makes riding with children feasible as long as you have the right bike. Helmets and safety gear are recommended, and early mornings or weekends are usually less crowded for family rides.
