Dogs

Are dogs allowed on the beach in Laguna Beach? Wasn't sure if there were certain hours or times of year they might be allowed on the beach. I know there is Dog Beach but was hoping for a closer option.

In Laguna Beach, dogs are not generally allowed on the beach unless specified. However, there is a specific area known as the "Dog Beach" located in the northern part of the city that is designated for dogs to enjoy the sand and surf. This is the primary spot for dog owners in Laguna Beach.

As for regular beaches, Laguna Beach has rules that restrict dogs from accessing the shoreline. There are, however, some exceptions during certain times of the year, and certain beaches may allow dogs during off-peak hours. The general rule is that dogs are allowed on the beach during the off-season (typically from mid-September to June) and at certain times, usually before 9 AM and after 6 PM. It’s always good to double-check with the city or local signage for updated rules and hours.

  • Dog Beach: This is the most popular and closest place for your dog to enjoy the beach. It's located near the mouth of the Aliso Creek in the northern part of Laguna Beach, where dogs can roam freely off-leash.
  • Main Beach and Other Beaches: Dogs are generally prohibited, but the off-season (typically fall and winter months) may have more lenient rules, with dog access allowed during certain hours like early mornings or late evenings.
  • Heisler Park: While dogs are not allowed on the beaches at Heisler Park, this area does have some grassy spots and walking paths where dogs are permitted. It’s a nice option for those who want to be close to the beach with their pets.

If you're planning to bring your dog, I would recommend visiting Dog Beach, as it is the most dog-friendly area. Be sure to always clean up after your dog and follow the local regulations regarding leash laws and pet behavior. Enjoy your time in Laguna Beach!
