watching NCAA tournament after getting luggage

Is there anywhere near terminal 4 (where we arrive at 11:10 on Sunday) to watch the NCAA tournament game after picking up luggage? If we continue to get car and then drive somewhere the game could be almost over, so were wondering if it is possible to stay in the airport somewhere and watch it. If not, what happens to luggage there if we don't pick it up until after the game?

Thanks for any guidance!

Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) Terminal 4 is the main terminal for most domestic flights, and while it doesn’t have traditional sports bars inside the secured areas, there are a few ways you could catch an NCAA tournament game after picking up luggage.

Options for watching the game inside or near Terminal 4:

  • Some airport restaurants and bars in Terminal 4 may have TVs with sports channels. Popular options include:
    • Fat Willy’s (in Terminal 4, post-security but before gates) – sometimes has sports on TV.
    • Allegiant or other sit-down airport bars in Terminal 4 – usually limited, but worth asking staff if the game is on.
    • Court side lounges at certain airline clubs (if you have access) often show live sports, including NCAA games.
  • Most TVs in food courts or waiting areas in the terminal tend to focus on news, but some have sports channels. It’s hit or miss.
  • Terminal 4 is connected by the airport’s sky train to Terminal 3 and other facilities if you want to explore more dining options, but sports options remain limited.

If you can’t watch inside the airport:

  • You could grab your luggage, rent a car, and drive to a nearby sports bar or casual restaurant in Phoenix. Driving to downtown or nearby areas can take 15–25 minutes, so the game may be partially underway by the time you arrive.
  • To maximize viewing time, consider checking the game on a mobile device (tablet or phone) while waiting in the baggage claim area or at a nearby airport restaurant.

Luggage handling if you don’t pick it up immediately:

  • Phoenix Sky Harbor requires passengers to pick up checked baggage at the claim area after arrival. Airlines generally hold luggage for several hours after your flight, but you cannot leave it unattended in the terminal. Most baggage claim areas have a staffed counter if you need to explain a short delay, but the airport doesn’t provide long-term storage in the baggage area for people who are still in the terminal.
  • If you want to watch the game first and leave luggage temporarily, your only options are:
    • Check with your airline — some provide short-term luggage holding at the ticket counter after claim.
    • Use an official airport luggage storage service if available (PHX doesn’t have widespread public storage inside Terminal 4, so options are very limited).

Practical advice:

  • If watching the game live is a priority, bring a mobile device or tablet with a streaming app for NCAA games. You can do this in the baggage claim area or at any restaurant inside the terminal.
  • If you prefer a larger screen and traditional sports bar experience, you’ll need to pick up luggage first, get your rental car, and drive to a nearby bar. Expect to miss a few minutes of the game.

In summary, Terminal 4 has very limited options to watch the NCAA tournament on a big screen after arrival. Mobile streaming or quickly grabbing a rental car to a nearby sports bar is the most reliable way to catch the game.
