Best beach near Coconut Grove

Hi there. My husband and I will be taking a long weekend, staying in Coconut Grove. We will not have a car. Could someone recommended a nice beach for a walk and few hours of relaxation? Short Uber ride would be ok, but prefer to walk there. We are staying at the Courtyard Miami Coconut Grove. Thank you!

Coconut Grove is a charming, leafy neighborhood, but it is not directly on the ocean, so there are no beaches within immediate walking distance from your hotel. However, there are several nearby options accessible by a short Uber ride or a combination of walking and public transport.

Here are some recommended beaches for a relaxing few hours:

  • Virginia Key Beach: About a 10-15 minute Uber ride from Coconut Grove. This beach is quieter and more natural, with soft sand, scenic views, and walking paths. It’s a great spot for a peaceful stroll along the water without crowds.
  • Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park Beach: Located on Key Biscayne, roughly a 15-20 minute Uber ride. This beach is known for its historic lighthouse, calm waters, and shaded areas. Perfect for a walk or picnic and less commercialized than South Beach.
  • South Beach (Miami Beach): About 20-25 minutes by Uber. This is the iconic Miami Beach with wide sandy stretches, lively atmosphere, and plenty of amenities. Best if you want a classic Miami experience, though it will be busier.
  • Matheson Hammock Park: A 10-minute Uber ride. Not a traditional beach, but has a man-made atoll pool and waterfront views. It’s ideal for a short, relaxed walk and taking in the bay scenery.

Tips for visiting beaches without a car:

  • Using Uber or Lyft is convenient; consider checking if your hotel offers shuttle service to Virginia Key or Key Biscayne.
  • Bring sunscreen, water, and hats, as some quieter beaches have limited shade and amenities.
  • If you prefer walking, the scenic route along the waterfront from Coconut Grove Marina to Peacock Park is nice, though it’s more of a bayfront stroll than an ocean beach.

In summary, for a relaxed beach day close to Coconut Grove, Virginia Key or Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park are the best options for adults seeking tranquility and nature. South Beach is an option for a lively experience, but it requires a longer ride and more bustling surroundings.
