Uber from OGG
I apologize if this has already been asked. I'm just wondering the approximate cost of taking an Uber from OGG to Maui Kamaole in Kihei. We do have a car reserved through Kihei rent a car but our flight isn't scheduled to arrive until 9:40 pm and if it is at all late we won't be able to take their shuttle. I don't think we'll have any other options at that time of night?
No need to apologize — good question. Kahului Airport (OGG) to the Maui Kamaole area in Kihei is a common trip and totally doable by Uber, but prices vary by time of day, demand, and vehicle type. Below is a practical breakdown so you can plan if your flight is late.
Typical estimates (approximate):
- UberX / economy car: about $35–$60. (If there’s surge pricing late at night it can be higher.)
- UberXL / larger vehicle (for extra luggage or more people): about $55–$90.
- Taxi: usually in the $50–$80 range one way (depending on tip and exact destination).
Practical notes and tips:
- Distance & time — Kahului Airport to Kihei (Maui Kamaole) is roughly a 20–35 minute drive depending on traffic and the exact Kihei access point — plan accordingly.
- Late-night availability — Uber generally operates on Maui but during very late hours cars can be fewer; it’s wise to open the app on arrival to confirm immediate availability. If flights are delayed past midnight, waits can increase and surge pricing is more likely.
- Call your rental company — since you have a Kihei Rent A Car reservation, call them in advance and explain your arrival time. Some local rental companies will do an after-hours pick up or meet you at the airport for a small fee or by arrangement — that can be more reliable than depending on rideshare late at night.
- Alternative: pick up a car at OGG — major rental counters at the airport (Alamo, Enterprise, Hertz, etc.) are open late; if Kihei Rent A Car can’t meet you, consider using an airport-based agency that can get you on the road immediately. That avoids waiting for shuttles or rideshares.
- Pre-book a private transfer — for peace of mind you can prebook an airport transfer or shuttle (cost will be similar to a large Uber but guaranteed), which is handy if your arrival time is uncertain.
- Check the app for a real-time fare estimate when you land — Uber shows live pricing and wait times, so you’ll know exact cost and availability the moment you touch down.
- Tip & luggage — factor in tip and any extra charges for lots of luggage or oversized items (taxi fares typically expect a tip; rideshare gratuity is optional but customary).
Bottom line: an Uber from OGG to Maui Kamaole is a convenient option and will likely cost in the ~$35–$60 range for a standard car if demand is normal. Because your pickup time is late and your Kihei rental shuttle may not run if the flight is delayed, I recommend either (a) calling Kihei Rent A Car now to confirm a late pickup arrangement, or (b) being prepared to request an Uber on arrival and having a backup plan to pick up an airport rental if no rides are available.
