Florida shooting range

Can anyone give any information regarding any shooting ranges please. We are staying in Lake Buena Vista for 3 weeks and will be on public transport only can anyone suggest anywhere that we could visit that is not too far away. Does anyone know the rules and regulations regarding this activity please.

If you're interested in visiting a shooting range while staying in Lake Buena Vista, there are a few options nearby that are accessible via public transport or short rideshare trips. Central Florida offers a variety of shooting ranges catering to different types of firearms and experiences. Here are some options to consider:

  • The Shoot Straight Gun Shop & Range: Located in nearby Casselberry, this is one of the most popular shooting ranges in the Orlando area. They offer a wide range of firearms for rental and cater to both beginners and experienced shooters. They also have indoor ranges for handguns and rifles.
  • Orlando Gun Club: A short distance from Lake Buena Vista, this is another top choice for both indoor and outdoor shooting ranges. They offer rentals for different types of guns, and they provide lessons for those new to shooting. Their staff is highly regarded for safety and professionalism.
  • Universal Shooting Academy: Located in Frostproof, this is a bit farther out from Orlando but offers both indoor and outdoor shooting experiences, as well as tactical training. While public transport may not be the most convenient option to reach this range, a rideshare or rental car could get you there.

In terms of regulations, Florida has specific laws regarding the use of firearms at ranges. Below are some general rules and guidelines:

  • Age Restrictions: You must be at least 18 years old to use most ranges for shooting rifles and shotguns. For handguns, you typically need to be 21 years old.
  • Firearm Rentals: Most ranges allow you to rent firearms, but you will need to provide valid ID and may be asked to sign a waiver. Be prepared to show proof of identity (e.g., passport or driver's license).
  • Safety First: All ranges require you to follow strict safety protocols, including wearing ear and eye protection. Some ranges may provide safety instructions and a briefing before your session.
  • Public Transport Access: While public transport directly to some ranges may be limited, rideshare services (like Uber or Lyft) are a great option for getting to and from the ranges in Orlando.

It's also a good idea to call ahead to confirm the range’s policies, availability, and pricing. Be sure to inquire about any specific rules, especially if you're unfamiliar with Florida's firearm regulations. Most ranges in the Orlando area are beginner-friendly, but they’ll still emphasize safety and proper handling of weapons.
