Walking in Seward

My husband and I will arrive in Seward by bus in July. We have a air bnb on C st. The closest the bus drop is the Gateway Hotel. We will have 3 blocks to walk to our house. Is this ok to walk or should we get a uber/taxi? We are in good health so walking that far is not a problem. TIA

Walking three blocks in Seward from the bus drop at the Gateway Hotel to your Airbnb on C Street is generally very reasonable, especially since you mentioned you are in good health. Seward is a small town, and the downtown area is pedestrian-friendly, with sidewalks and relatively light traffic compared to larger cities.

Here are a few considerations for your walk:

  • Luggage: If you are traveling with heavy suitcases, you might find it slightly inconvenient, but a small cart or rolling suitcase should make the walk manageable.
  • Weather: In July, the weather is typically mild, ranging from the mid-50s to mid-60s Fahrenheit in the mornings and 60s–70s during the day. Rain is always a possibility in Alaska, so carrying a light rain jacket or umbrella could be helpful.
  • Scenery: Walking gives you a nice chance to see a bit of downtown Seward, including shops and local architecture, which you would miss in a car.

Alternative options, if you prefer not to walk or have heavy luggage:

  • Uber or local taxi – there are a few services in Seward, though they may take a few minutes to arrive since it’s a small town.
  • Ask the Airbnb host if they offer a pickup from the bus stop, which some hosts in Seward do as a courtesy.

Overall, a three-block walk is completely fine for healthy travelers, and it will likely be quicker than waiting for a taxi or ride-share. Enjoy the stroll and the small-town charm of Seward!
