Please share . Thanks in advance
Using Didi to reach Mutianyu and then the Summer Palace from Wangfujing is a convenient option, especially if you are traveling as a couple and want flexibility. Here’s a detailed breakdown based on common traveler experiences:
Mutianyu via Didi:
- Distance & Duration: Mutianyu is about 70 km northeast of central Beijing. The drive typically takes 1.5–2 hours depending on traffic.
- Cost: Expect to pay roughly 200–300 RMB one way with Didi, though prices fluctuate slightly with demand and time of day.
- Drop-off Point: Didi will drop you at the main entrance parking area of Mutianyu Great Wall.
- Transport to Cable Car: From the entrance, there are shuttle buses that take visitors up to the cable car station. The shuttle is included in your ticket price or is very inexpensive. Alternatively, you can hike up, but with limited time, the shuttle is recommended.
- Cable Car: Once at the cable car station, you can take it to the top of the wall for a more comfortable visit. There’s also a toboggan slide option for descending, which many travelers enjoy.
Summer Palace via Didi:
- Distance & Duration: From Mutianyu back to central Beijing and then to the Summer Palace is about 40–50 km. Travel time is roughly 1–1.5 hours depending on traffic.
- Cost: Expect about 80–150 RMB with Didi depending on traffic and route.
- Drop-off Point: Didi can drop you at the main entrance of the Summer Palace (Wangjing gate is popular), so you can enter directly.
- Navigation: The Summer Palace is large, and once inside, you can explore on foot or rent a bicycle/electric cart inside the park to save energy.
Tips for Using Didi in Beijing:
- Ensure your Didi app is set up properly before the trip, ideally with a Chinese phone number or using international roaming options.
- Have your destinations written in Chinese to avoid confusion, especially for locations like Mutianyu, as some drivers may not understand English well.
- Traffic can be heavy, especially in the morning and late afternoon. Plan extra time to avoid rushing.
- If you plan to visit both in a single day, starting early is crucial to have enough time for both sites.
Overall, using Didi gives you flexibility and comfort, especially when traveling with just two people, and the shuttle buses at Mutianyu make it easy to reach the cable car without hassle.
