Where to stay in Sedona
This will be our first trip there and I was wonderingwhat would be the best section to stay in. We would like good resteraunts and will be taking tours.
Sedona is a stunning destination with a variety of lodging areas, each offering different experiences depending on what you want for your trip. Since this is your first visit and you’re looking for good restaurants and tour access, choosing the right section of Sedona can make a big difference.
The main areas to consider for lodging are:
- Uptown Sedona: This is the central hub of the town, with easy access to shops, galleries, and restaurants. Staying here puts you within walking distance of popular eateries and tour pickup points. It’s convenient if you want a lively atmosphere and easy access to services.
- West Sedona: West Sedona has a mix of hotels, motels, and vacation rentals. It’s quieter than Uptown but still offers good dining options and is well-positioned for accessing many tour companies that depart for Red Rock adventures, jeep tours, and hiking trips.
- Village of Oak Creek: Located just south of Sedona proper, this area offers a more budget-friendly and resort-style experience. It’s a short drive to the main attractions in Sedona and has several restaurants and golf resorts. It’s ideal if you prefer a slightly more peaceful setting while still being close to tours.
- Red Rock Scenic Drive area: For those who want to be immersed in nature and close to trailheads, this area offers luxurious resorts and vacation rentals with stunning views. It’s slightly removed from dining and shopping, so you’ll need to drive a few minutes to reach restaurants.
Additional considerations:
- Tour pickup locations: Many jeep, hiking, and vortex tours will pick up from hotels, especially in Uptown or West Sedona, so staying in these areas may reduce travel time and logistics stress.
- Dining options: Uptown Sedona has the highest concentration of restaurants, cafes, and casual dining, making it easier to grab meals without driving.
- Scenic experience: If your priority is being close to nature and iconic red rock views, Red Rock Scenic Drive area or some West Sedona properties offer beautiful vistas directly from the lodging.
In summary, for first-time visitors who want a mix of good dining, tour access, and convenience, Uptown Sedona is the most recommended area. West Sedona is a quieter alternative that still provides access to tours and restaurants. Village of Oak Creek is great for a more relaxed or resort-style stay. Red Rock Scenic Drive is ideal if your focus is immersion in natural scenery.
