Luggage storage

Hi we are planning to go to Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu by train. We want to get an early train and visit Huanglong National Park first on arriving at the train station then go on to our hotel near Jiuzhaigou National Park for 2 nights. Then we go back to Chengdu and on to Chongqing by train. I wondered if we could either leave our main luggage at Chengdu train Station or Huanglong Jiuzhai station. Just take a small rucksack for the 2 days in the parks. Has anyone stored luggage at these stations and could advise? Many thanks.

Hi, storing luggage in Sichuan while visiting Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong is possible, but there are a few practical points to consider. Luggage storage at train stations in China is quite common, but not all stations offer the same services, and smaller stations may have limited facilities.

At Chengdu train stations (Chengdu East or Chengdu Railway Station), luggage storage is widely available. You can usually leave large suitcases at the station for a few hours or even overnight. The process is straightforward: approach the luggage storage counter, show your ID and train ticket, and pay the fee, which is typically small (around 10–20 RMB per item for a few hours).

At Huanglong Jiuzhai Airport or Jiuzhai Huanglong Train Station, the situation is slightly more limited. The train station (Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Railway Station) is relatively new, and it does have luggage storage facilities, but the size and number of lockers may be limited, especially during peak tourist season. It is usually safer to store your main luggage in Chengdu and carry only a small rucksack for day trips to Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou.

  • Store luggage at Chengdu train station: Reliable, safe, and available for overnight storage. Recommended for larger bags.
  • Store luggage at Jiuzhaigou Huanglong train station: Possible, but facilities may be limited and space not guaranteed during busy periods.
  • Hotel storage: Some hotels near Jiuzhaigou National Park may allow you to leave luggage before check-in or after check-out. Always confirm in advance.

If your plan is to arrive early and visit Huanglong first, consider taking only essentials for the park (water, snacks, a light jacket, camera) in a small daypack. You can then pick up your main luggage at the station or hotel later and proceed to Jiuzhaigou for your 2-night stay. This will make your transit much more convenient and avoid carrying heavy bags through the parks.

  • Pack a small rucksack with essentials for 1–2 days for park visits.
  • Confirm with your hotel if they provide luggage storage before check-in.
  • Check station hours for luggage storage, as some counters close late at night.

In summary, while Jiuzhaigou train station does have luggage storage, for convenience and certainty, it is generally recommended to store your main luggage at Chengdu station and travel light for your excursions to Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou.
