I hope take train to Huanglong-Jiuzhai Station from Chengdu. Are there buses from station to Huanglong, or private cab? then take cable car up to Huanglong where the views are spectacular. Also one can walk down or take cable car down. Can I get tickets on that day? Or do I need to book tickets online thanks
Hello, traveling from Chengdu to Huanglong via the Huanglong-Jiuzhai train station is quite convenient, but there are some details to be aware of to make your visit smooth and enjoyable. The Huanglong Scenic Area is renowned for its colorful travertine pools and alpine scenery, so planning your transport and tickets carefully will enhance your experience.
From Huanglong-Jiuzhai Station, there are several options to reach Huanglong Scenic Area:
- Shuttle buses: There are official shuttle buses that connect the train station to Huanglong Scenic Area. The ride is about 1–1.5 hours, and buses usually start running in the morning aligned with train arrivals. This is a cost-effective option.
- Private taxis or hired cars: Taxis or private drivers are available at the station. This is faster and more flexible, allowing you to depart at your preferred time. Expect to negotiate the fare in advance; typical cost ranges from 300–500 RMB one way, depending on season and demand.
- Tour operators: Some local tour agencies provide day trips from the station to Huanglong including transportation and ticket handling, which can save time and reduce hassle.
Once you arrive at Huanglong Scenic Area, there is a cable car that takes visitors up to the top. Most travelers recommend taking the cable car up to save energy for exploring, then either walking down or taking the cable car back down, depending on your preference and time.
Regarding tickets:
- Huanglong Scenic Area tickets can be purchased on the day of your visit at the entrance. However, during peak seasons (especially summer and Chinese holidays), tickets may sell out quickly.
- Online booking is recommended for convenience and to guarantee entry, particularly if you are traveling in July or other busy periods.
- If buying on-site, plan to arrive early in the morning to avoid long queues and secure cable car slots.
Additional tips:
- Bring comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sunscreen as the area involves walking and exposure to sun.
- Check the weather forecast in advance; Huanglong is at high altitude, and conditions can change quickly.
- Carry water and light snacks; while there are some food options at the top, they may be limited.
In summary, you have both bus and private taxi options from Huanglong-Jiuzhai Station to Huanglong Scenic Area. Cable cars make the climb easier, and while tickets can be purchased on the day, booking online is safer during peak season to avoid disappointment.
