Hotel help

Hi coming to DC June 6-8 or 7-9

2 adults

So many options and I’m so confused. I don’t know if I’m supposed to stay downtown or Capitol Hill area or what I’m looking for something walking distance to sites below that we are going to see are:

Holocaust museum

African American museum

Lincoln memorial

And possible spy museum

I mean, honestly we’ll probably just look at a bunch of everything but I just don’t know where to stay. There’s just so many hotels. I’m trying to stay under 250 to 275 per night.

I am an IHG member any recommendation on Kimpton, Holiday Inn or Crowne Plaza hotels are any of them walking distance and in a decent area any ideas are welcome thank you and I appreciate your time

For a short visit to Washington DC with your list of key sites—Holocaust Museum, African American Museum, Lincoln Memorial, and possibly the Spy Museum—location is important for minimizing walking and maximizing sightseeing. Since you are an IHG member and looking for a budget of $250–$275 per night, there are several options that balance convenience, safety, and brand loyalty.

Recommended Areas to Stay:

  • Downtown / Penn Quarter: Very central and within walking distance of the National Mall, Holocaust Museum, African American Museum, and Spy Museum. This area is lively, safe, and offers restaurants and nightlife.
  • Capitol Hill: Close to the National Gallery of Art, Supreme Court, and eastern side of the Mall. A bit farther from the Lincoln Memorial but still accessible by Metro or a pleasant walk along the Mall.
  • Foggy Bottom / West End: Near the Lincoln Memorial and Potomac River parks. Good for walking to the western end of the National Mall and near Metro for eastern attractions.

IHG Options in Walking Distance:

  • Holiday Inn Washington-Capitol: Located near the Mall, about a 10–15 minute walk to the Holocaust Museum and African American Museum. Offers typical Holiday Inn amenities and is often within your price range in June.
  • Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington DC: Located in Penn Quarter, a short walk to many museums, restaurants, and Metro. Kimptons are known for their stylish interiors and good service. Check rates, as some dates may be slightly above budget.
  • Crowne Plaza DC – The Wharf (or near National Mall): Accessible to the Mall via a short Metro ride or 15–20 minute walk. Comfortable accommodations and IHG rewards apply.

Other Considerations:

  • Walking distances in DC can add up; for your listed sites, Downtown or Penn Quarter provides the most convenient central base.
  • Metro access: Even if you stay slightly farther from the Mall, ensure a Metro station is nearby. The Smithsonian (Orange/Blue/Silver lines) and Federal Triangle (Orange/Blue/Silver) stations are very convenient.
  • Book early for June as rates can rise quickly; consider flexible dates (6–8 vs 7–9) depending on availability and price.
  • Check for IHG member deals, which sometimes include breakfast or free points that can offset the cost slightly.

In summary, staying in Downtown or Penn Quarter at an IHG property like Holiday Inn or Kimpton offers central location, walking access to most of your target sites, and a reasonable price point. If you prioritize proximity to the Lincoln Memorial, Foggy Bottom is an alternative, but you may need a short Metro or cab ride to reach the museums on the eastern side of the Mall.
