June 14th
With the 250th Army anniversary and all the activities planned around the National Mall I’m looking for ideas for sat night. We are going to Arlington cemetery and the Holocaust Museum. Something g less people-y?
Since June 14th in DC will be busy with the 250th Army anniversary celebrations, the National Mall will be extremely crowded. If you’re looking for something less hectic on a Saturday night after visiting Arlington National Cemetery and the Holocaust Museum, there are several quieter and enjoyable alternatives.
Here are some options for a low-key evening:
- Georgetown Waterfront: A peaceful area to stroll along the Potomac River. You can enjoy views of the Kennedy Center, water taxis, and the Key Bridge, with several restaurants and cafes for a relaxed dinner or drink.
- Dupont Circle: A charming neighborhood with tree-lined streets, boutique shops, and less crowded bars and restaurants. Great for an evening walk or casual dinner.
- Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden: If you enjoy art outdoors, this museum has a sculpture garden that can be visited later in the day with fewer people than indoor exhibits.
- Old Town Alexandria (just across the river): Quaint streets with historic buildings, cobblestone sidewalks, and quiet restaurants. Evening strolls here are scenic and relaxing.
Additional quieter activities:
- Evening Monument Walk: Many of the monuments like Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial are open late and tend to be less crowded at night, offering a peaceful experience with beautiful lighting.
- Jazz Clubs or Small Live Music Venues: Look into venues such as Blues Alley in Georgetown or smaller spots in Adams Morgan for a cozy evening with music away from the large crowds.
- Rooftop Dining: Some hotels and restaurants offer rooftop bars with views of the city skyline, allowing you to enjoy DC from above without dealing with the bustle of the Mall.
Overall, focusing on neighborhoods like Georgetown, Dupont Circle, or Old Town Alexandria, or visiting monuments and outdoor museums at night, will give you a pleasant, less crowded Saturday evening while still experiencing the city’s charm.
