FYI Disneyland & DCA New Turnstiles!

Disney has installed new style turnstiles in Disneyland, DCA, and the Downtown Disney Monorail Station. They are also being installed at the Grand Californian Hotel entrance to DCA. These new turnstiles are technically updated to allow guests to scan themselves in rather than having a cast member scan them in.

The scan in works through the Disneyland Resort App where your ticket(s) are located. It's used similar to the way guests scan into a lighting lane queue. There is a screen facing the guest that will show the guest's face in a small round photo. A successful scan takes just a second. The screen shows arrows afterwards indicating to walk through. There are short double doors that will open for the guest to enter. They open automatically and will close again if the guest takes too much time.

Alternatively, a Magic Band can be used instead of a phone. (Which the guest can purchase in the park or Downtown Disney. Requires charging.)

While guests are getting used to this cast members are still there to advise. People may have some trouble adjusting to this change, so be patient with your fellow guests and expect longer lines at entrances.

Disneyland Resort has recently upgraded its turnstiles at Disneyland, Disney California Adventure (DCA), the Downtown Disney Monorail Station, and the Grand Californian Hotel entrance to DCA. These new turnstiles allow guests to scan themselves in, providing a faster and more contactless entry experience.

Key features of the new turnstiles include:

  • Guests can scan their tickets directly from the Disneyland Resort App on their phone, similar to how Lightning Lane entries are scanned.
  • The turnstile has a small screen facing the guest that shows their face in a circular photo for confirmation.
  • A successful scan takes only a second, after which arrows on the screen guide the guest to walk through.
  • There are automatic double doors that open when the scan is successful and close if the guest takes too long to pass through.
  • Guests can also use a Magic Band instead of a phone, which can be purchased inside the park or at Downtown Disney. Magic Bands require charging to function properly.

Additional considerations:

  • Cast members are still present to assist and guide guests who are unfamiliar with the new system.
  • As guests adjust to the new technology, some delays or longer lines may occur at entrances, so patience is advised.
  • The system is designed to streamline entry over time, and most guests will quickly adapt to scanning themselves.

Overall, the new turnstiles are intended to make park entry faster and more autonomous, but initial patience and guidance from cast members will help ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
