I'm in the 30-day out window for our trip and I was (only) able to reserve the 4:30pm-Sunset block (actually got it around 12:30am HST). While it's a shorter block at ~3 hours vs. the other two, and probably not enough time to hike the trail with my family, I thought it might still be cool to watch the sunset from the first lookout, or Ke'e Beach, etc., similar to Polihale on the southwest side. However, do we have to be out of the parking lot by sunset or is there some leeway?
Looking for some feedback from others that have also had that later timeslot. TYIA
Reserving the 4:30pm-Sunset timeslot at Haena State Park can be a great way to experience the area in the late afternoon and enjoy the sunset, even if you don’t plan on hiking the full trail. Many visitors use this slot to relax at Ke’e Beach, enjoy the first lookout, and take in the coastal scenery without doing the longer Kalalau Trail hike.

Tips for making the most of the later timeslot:
In summary, the 4:30pm-Sunset reservation works well for a relaxing late afternoon visit, but make sure to leave the parking lot by the end of your reserved block to avoid any issues. It’s a perfect slot to enjoy the sunset and scenic views without needing to do the longer hikes.
