Where to stay - Mid June

Looking for input as where to stay mid-June when visiting RMNP. I booked BW SIlver Saddle but now wondering if will work. We do not have timed entry passes for the morning - so am considering using hiker shuttle so we can start our day earlier. However, since it leaves from EP Visitor Center - we need to get to the EP Visitor Center in the morning to catch it. The Blue line shuttle that stops at the hotel doesn't start until July. So either we need to walk to visitor center or drive and leave car in town. I believe, from what I've read, we can only leave car there for 3/12 hours - which limits us too much. And so, wondering will BW Silver saddle work - can we walk to Visitor Center in morn to catch hiker shuttle into park - are their sidewalks on this stretch of road? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Staying in Estes Park in mid-June is a great choice for visiting Rocky Mountain National Park, but the logistics around shuttles and timed entries can affect convenience. Best Western Silver Saddle is centrally located in Estes Park, making it relatively easy to access downtown amenities. However, for catching the hiker shuttle into RMNP in the morning, there are a few considerations.

The hiker shuttle typically departs from the Estes Park Visitor Center early in the morning. Walking from Best Western Silver Saddle to the Visitor Center is possible, but it’s important to note:

  • The route along Elkhorn Avenue/Main Street has sidewalks in most sections, but some stretches may be narrow or less well-lit early in the morning.
  • The walk is approximately 15-20 minutes depending on your pace, so plan accordingly if you have gear for hiking.
  • Traffic is generally light early in the morning, but caution is advised, especially for groups or if walking in the dark.

If walking is a concern, you could consider driving and parking near the Visitor Center. As you noted, parking time limits can be restrictive:

  • The Visitor Center lot allows only a few hours of parking in certain areas, which may not be sufficient for a full day of hiking.
  • Alternative options include parking in town and taking the free shuttle once it starts in July, or looking for paid long-term parking lots nearby (some lodges or private lots may allow day parking for a fee).

Other lodging suggestions that might offer easier early-morning access to the shuttle or park entrances include:

  • Hotels or inns along MacGregor Avenue or near Moraine Avenue, which are closer to the Visitor Center.
  • Accommodations on the west side of town along Elkhorn Avenue that reduce the walking distance to the shuttle pickup.
  • Vacation rentals near downtown Estes Park that provide parking on-site and easy access to the Visitor Center via a short walk or quick drive.

In summary, Best Western Silver Saddle can work if you are comfortable with a 15-20 minute morning walk along sidewalks to reach the hiker shuttle. If walking or time constraints are a concern, considering lodging slightly closer to the Visitor Center or with guaranteed parking may reduce stress in the mornings and maximize your time in the park.
