hong kong e visa

Hello

Im Sri Lankan passport holder who is planning to travel to Hong Kong with my family (wife and Daughter) for a family trip in late June. As I need an E visa before I travel, I started completing the forms and wanted to see if someone can please clarify me the following.

1. in the application , it asks " Is there any included spouse/partner#/children/siblings in the applicant’s travel document who is/are travelling with the applicant?" I believe the answer to this question is NO as I my wife and Daughter will be travelling in their own passport ?

2. If the answer to Question 1 is yes , I believe they need to complete a separate application. One of the questions that is mentioned in the application is the monthly income . Can i keep it blank as they do not work ( i.e my wife is a housewife, and my daughter is a student). would this create any issue?

3. Is there any option to submit a combine visa application for the entire family ?

3. I was trying to see the visa fees for Sri Lankan passport holders but I cant find this information online. If someone has this, can you please share it with me?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Regards

Charith

As a Sri Lankan passport holder, you are correct that you will need to apply for a pre-arrival e-visa (officially called an “e-Visa for Visit”) before traveling to Hong Kong. The process is done entirely online through the Hong Kong Immigration Department’s website. Each traveler, including your wife and daughter, must have their own separate visa application. Here are detailed answers to your specific questions:

1. Question about “included spouse/partner/children/siblings” in the applicant’s travel document:

You are correct — the answer to this question should be “No.” This question refers to whether your family members are listed in your own passport (as dependents or included travelers). Since all of you have individual passports, each person is considered a separate applicant, so you should select “No.”

2. Income question for your wife and daughter:

If your wife is a homemaker and your daughter is a student, they can leave the “monthly income” field blank or indicate “Not applicable.” This will not cause any problem as long as the main applicant (you) has sufficient income and financial documents to demonstrate the family’s ability to fund the trip. You can mention that you will be sponsoring their trip in their application forms and include supporting documentation (bank statements, employment letter, etc.) with your application.

  • For your wife: indicate her occupation as “Homemaker” or “Housewife.”
  • For your daughter: indicate “Student.”
  • For both: if there’s a field for sponsor or relationship, list your details as the sponsor.

3. Combined visa application option:

Currently, Hong Kong’s e-Visa system does not allow for a single combined or family visa application. Each family member must submit an individual online application, as each e-Visa is linked to a unique passport number. However, you can apply for all three at the same time using the same computer session, and you can upload the same supporting documents (like your flight bookings, hotel reservations, and proof of financial means) for all applications.

It is recommended to use the same contact email address for all applications to simplify communication and tracking of approvals.

4. Visa fees for Sri Lankan passport holders:

The standard visa fee for Sri Lankan citizens traveling to Hong Kong for a short visit (tourism or family trip) is generally HKD 230 per person. This amount is paid online when the e-Visa is approved. You will receive an approval notification by email, and the payment link will be provided through the same online system. After payment, you can download and print the “e-Visa” document to present at immigration upon arrival.

  • Visa fee: around HKD 230 per person (subject to small bank or transaction fees).
  • Processing time: usually 4–6 working days after submission.
  • Validity: typically allows a short stay (up to 14 or 30 days, depending on approval).

Additional Tips:

  • Ensure that each passport has at least six months of validity from the date of entry.
  • Upload clear scanned copies of all required documents (passport bio page, flight details, hotel bookings, financial proof).
  • Keep a printed copy of each approved e-Visa for your records and present it at the immigration counter when arriving in Hong Kong.

In summary, each family member must apply separately with “No” selected for the included traveler question. It’s fine to leave income blank for non-working dependents, and you can sponsor their applications with your income documentation. Expect a fee of around HKD 230 per applicant and a processing time of about one week before approval.
