zipline at Simatian greatwall

Hi I saw youtube videos of people zipline at Simatian part of Great Wall of China, but can't find much infomation on how to get the tickets and where to do it. Is the activity still available at Simatian Greatwall?

Thank you.

The Simatai section of the Great Wall, located about 120 km northeast of Beijing, is famous for its steepness, beautiful scenery, and adventure activities such as hiking, cable car rides, and the zipline that descends from the wall to the valley below.

Regarding the zipline specifically:

  • Yes, the zipline at Simatai is still operational, but it is subject to seasonal availability and weather conditions. Typically, it operates during the main tourist seasons and may be closed during winter months for safety reasons.
  • Tickets for the zipline are usually purchased on-site at the Simatai Great Wall ticket office. Some travel agencies and tour operators in Beijing may also include the zipline in adventure tour packages, which can help bypass on-site lines and ensure availability.
  • The zipline is managed separately from the general entry tickets to Simatai. Make sure to inquire specifically about the “zipline experience” (滑索) when buying tickets or booking a tour. Prices are additional to the entrance fee.

How to get there:

  • By car or taxi: Private car or a Didi ride from Beijing city center can take about 2–2.5 hours. This is the most convenient method if traveling directly for the zipline.
  • By public transport: Take a bus from Dongzhimen long-distance bus station to Miyun or Gubei Water Town area, then a taxi or local transport to Simatai. Note that public transport may not drop you directly at the zipline starting point, so some walking may be required.

Additional tips:

  • Arrive early in the day to ensure you get a spot for the zipline, as capacity is limited.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for outdoor adventure activities.
  • Check weather forecasts in advance, since the zipline may be closed during strong winds or rain for safety reasons.

In summary, the Simatai zipline is still available, but planning ahead is essential. Booking through a local tour operator or confirming availability on-site is recommended to avoid disappointment.
