HELP Me With Connecting Train in Shanghai!

Hello please give me your advice!!

From Shanghai I want to go Fenghuang Phoenix ancient town via High Speed Rail (HSR).

Unfortunately, there are only two timetable that is 12:30-ish and arrive at night.

I want to arrive at noon, and there is connecting Train from Shanghai to Hangzhou and then from Hangzhou to Fenghuang, recommended by Trip(dot)com.

I saw that the station in Hangzhou is the same (arrive and depart again): Hangzhou East. Transfer time is 1 hour 11 minutes.

What I want to ask is it okay to take this route? Is the transfer time is enough?

Let me know your answer!

FYI, I depart at 27 June (not peak season).

Yes, the route via Hangzhou East station is a commonly used option for reaching Fenghuang from Shanghai, especially if you want to arrive earlier than the direct high-speed trains allow. A 1 hour 11 minute transfer is generally sufficient for most travelers, as long as you are prepared and aware of the station layout.

Here are some important considerations:

  • Transfer feasibility: Hangzhou East is a large station but the platforms for connecting trains are usually within the same building. You should allow time to walk between platforms, go through security checks, and locate your next train.
  • Ticketing: Make sure both your tickets are booked and clearly indicate the train numbers. Trip.com generally provides accurate transfer details. Have your tickets or e-tickets easily accessible for inspection.
  • Luggage: Carry manageable luggage, as you may need to move quickly between platforms. There are luggage carts available but space can be limited.
  • Security checks: All passengers must go through a security check before boarding, which can take 10–20 minutes depending on the crowd.

Tips for a smooth transfer:

  • Check the departure platform for your next train as soon as you arrive; electronic boards are updated in real time.
  • Keep an eye on the train schedule in case of minor delays.
  • Use the official Trip.com itinerary or station app to navigate Hangzhou East efficiently.
  • Try to sit near the exits on your first train for faster access when you disembark.

In summary, a 1 hour 11 minute transfer is workable if you move efficiently and are familiar with the station. Since your travel date is not during peak season, congestion should be moderate, reducing stress. This route is a reasonable choice if you want to arrive in Fenghuang earlier than the direct train option.
