Good place to meet up with friends?
Hi,
We'll be visiting LA this summer at the same time as friends, and we plan to meet up for an afternoon/evening somewhere: 5 adults and two teenagers.
Any suggestions on good places to meet?
I thought Griffith Park might be a good place to start, but I'm not sure.
Thanks
Los Angeles offers many great places for groups to meet up, especially if you have adults and teenagers who might enjoy different activities. Griffith Park is indeed a solid option, but there are several other locations that can make your afternoon or evening memorable, comfortable, and flexible for a group of seven.
Below are suggestions that include relaxed outdoor areas, scenic viewpoints, and lively districts with food and entertainment that work well for mixed-age groups.
Great outdoor and scenic meeting spots:
- Griffith Park & Griffith Observatory – A classic choice. You can meet at the Observatory area for incredible city views, short walks, and photo opportunities. Teens usually enjoy the exhibits inside the Observatory. Parking can be tight at peak hours, so consider meeting earlier in the afternoon. There are picnic areas lower in the park if you want something quieter.
- The Getty Center – A wonderful place for adults who enjoy architecture, art, and gardens. Teens often enjoy the views and tram ride up the hill. There is plenty of space to stroll, sit, or grab a snack at the café. Great for talking and enjoying a relaxed, clean environment.
- Santa Monica Beach & Pier – If you prefer a breezy, coastal vibe, meeting at the beach or around the pier is excellent. There’s a mix of casual food, arcades, rides, and plenty of open space. Great for an afternoon that blends relaxing and playful activity.
Walkable areas with food and entertainment:
- The Grove & Original Farmers Market – One of the easiest meet-up spots in LA. Tons of food options (picky eaters welcome), a pleasant outdoor mall, shaded seating, and the lively Farmers Market stalls. Ideal if you want convenience and a stress-free place to wander, sit, and talk.
- Melrose Trading Post (Sundays only) – If your meet-up is on a Sunday, this flea market is a fun, youthful atmosphere with art, vintage clothing, food trucks, and live music. Teens tend to love it, and it’s relaxed enough for adults to enjoy, too.
- Downtown LA – Grand Central Market – A great choice if everyone wants to pick their own food. Nearby you can walk to The Broad museum (free but reservations recommended), the Angels Flight funicular, and various viewpoints.
Laid-back places perfect for conversation and hanging out:
- Echo Park Lake – Paddle boats, open green spaces, and casual cafés around the area. It’s a great mix of activity and relaxation, especially in warm weather.
- Manhattan Beach Pier & Downtown Manhattan Beach – A bit more refined and quieter than Santa Monica. Lovely beachfront setting and many walkable restaurants. Perfect for a sunset meet-up.
- Runyon Canyon (easy entrance meet-ups) – If your group is active, a short scenic hike followed by grabbing food in nearby West Hollywood can make for a fun half-day outing.
Griffith Park is totally suitable for your meet-up, especially if you want something iconic, outdoors, and family-friendly. However, if heat, parking stress, or mobility is a concern, The Grove or Santa Monica Beach offer flexible, easy alternatives.
Choosing the best option ultimately depends on how much walking you want to do, how long you want to stay, and what kind of setting your group enjoys most. But all of the above locations work very well for groups with both adults and teens.
