How to get to Xiqiao Mountain (Kwan Yin Statue)

Hi. I'm travelling to Guangzhou and wish to visit Foshan on a day trip. My current plan is to take the Guangzhou Metro to Zumiao station to visit Foshan Ancestral Temple (Huang Feihong Memorial Hall & Ip Man Hall). After that I wish to visit Xiqiao Mountain. I tried to google but can't find clear instructions on how to get there. From what I found, it is possible to get there from Foshan Ancestral Temple, Kuiqi Road station and Tongji Road station by bus, but failed to find details on the journey. Would appreicate if anyone can help. Thanks a lot in advance.

Visiting Xiqiao Mountain (also known as Mount Xiqiao or Xiqiaoshan) from Guangzhou on a day trip is quite feasible and rewarding. The mountain is famous for its scenic beauty and the enormous Kwan Yin (Guanyin) statue that sits atop the peak. Since you plan to first explore Foshan Ancestral Temple, Huang Feihong Memorial Hall, and Ip Man Hall at Zumiao, you can continue your trip conveniently to Xiqiao Mountain afterward.

Step 1: Travel from Guangzhou to Foshan

Take the Guangzhou Metro Line 1 and transfer to the Guangfo Line (FMetro). The Guangfo Line connects directly from Guangzhou to Foshan. Get off at Zumiao Station (祖庙站), which is located in the heart of Foshan. The trip takes about 45–60 minutes depending on where you start in Guangzhou.

  • Line: Guangfo Metro Line (广佛地铁线)
  • Destination: Zumiao Station (祖庙站)
  • Estimated time: ~50 minutes

Step 2: Visit the Foshan Ancestral Temple Area

From Zumiao Station Exit B, you can walk to the Foshan Ancestral Temple in about 5–10 minutes. The Huang Feihong Memorial Hall and Ip Man Hall are located within the same complex, so you can comfortably explore them in 1–2 hours.

Step 3: Travel from Foshan Ancestral Temple to Xiqiao Mountain

After your visit to the Ancestral Temple, you can take a public bus or taxi to reach Xiqiao Mountain Scenic Area, located about 25–30 kilometers southwest of Foshan city center. The journey typically takes around 45–60 minutes depending on traffic.

  • By Bus (budget-friendly option): From Zumiao Bus Station or nearby stops, take bus K6 or Fo-Nan Express Bus (佛南快线) that goes to Xiqiao Town (西樵镇). Once you reach Xiqiao Bus Terminal, you can transfer to the local bus K330 or a taxi to the main entrance of Xiqiao Mountain Scenic Area.
  • By Metro + Bus (alternative): Take the Guangfo Metro to Kuiqi Road Station (魁奇路站), exit the station, and transfer to bus K6 or K3 heading toward Xiqiao. This route is slightly faster than starting from Zumiao.
  • By Taxi (most convenient): From Foshan Ancestral Temple, take a taxi directly to the Xiqiao Mountain Visitor Center (西樵山游客中心). The fare is usually around 100–130 RMB and takes about 45 minutes. This is the best option for a group or those short on time.

Step 4: Exploring Xiqiao Mountain

Upon arrival, you’ll enter the Xiqiao Mountain National Forest Park area. The main attraction is the Nanhai Guanyin of Xiqiao Mountain, a magnificent 61.9-meter-tall bronze statue of the Goddess of Mercy, which can be reached by shuttle bus or on foot via a scenic trail. The mountain is dotted with lush greenery, waterfalls, ancient caves, and temples.

  • Nanhai Guanyin Statue: The highlight of the trip with panoramic views over the Foshan plains.
  • Baiyun Cave Scenic Area: Famous for its cliffs, rock formations, and quiet trails.
  • Yunquan Temple: A peaceful Buddhist temple complex located near the Guanyin statue.

There are shuttle buses inside the park that connect the main scenic areas, which helps save time during your visit. Most visitors spend about 2–3 hours exploring the main highlights.

Step 5: Returning to Guangzhou

After visiting Xiqiao Mountain, you can take a taxi or local bus back to Foshan West Railway Station or Kuiqi Road Station, and then transfer to the Guangzhou Metro Line 1 or Guangfo Line to return to Guangzhou. The total return journey usually takes about 1.5 hours.

Tips for a smooth day trip:

  • Start your day early around 8:00 am to have enough time for both Foshan and Xiqiao Mountain.
  • Bring some snacks and water, as food options on the mountain are limited and more expensive.
  • If you wish to watch the sunset at Xiqiao Mountain, consider returning to Guangzhou by evening high-speed train or metro before 9:00 pm.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the paths around the Guanyin statue involve some stairs.

In summary, the easiest and most time-efficient route is to visit Foshan Ancestral Temple first, then take a taxi or the K6 bus from Kuiqi Road Station to Xiqiao Mountain. With a full day, you can comfortably experience both Foshan’s cultural heritage and Xiqiao’s natural beauty.
