I’m arriving in Los Angeles on Amtrak and am wondering if the Union Station area is a good, safe place to stay?
I was looking at two hotels that look to be within walking distance: the Miyako and the Biltmore.
The Union Station area in Los Angeles is generally considered convenient for travelers arriving by train, as it is close to major transit options including Metro lines, buses, and taxis. Staying nearby offers easy access to downtown attractions such as Olvera Street, the Arts District, and the Broad Museum.
In terms of safety, the area is a mixed bag. Downtown LA has some neighborhoods with higher rates of petty crime and panhandling, and the immediate surroundings of Union Station can be a bit rough after dark. However, both the Miyako Hotel and the Millennium Biltmore are well-established hotels with security measures and are located in areas that are frequently patrolled.
