Hotels on HK Island

Hi,

We are spending two nights in HK as a stopover and decided on HK Island area for hotel. A few friends have recommended hotels - Renaissance, Lanson Place and The Hopewell as being quite well located for transport etc. Ideally prefer to spend no more than £400/£450 max for two nights.

Has anyone stayed at any of these hotels and can recommend? We are staying towards end of January.

Thanks

Staying on Hong Kong Island is a great choice for a short stopover, as it gives you easy access to transport, shopping, and major attractions. The hotels you mentioned are all well-located, but each has its own pros and cons depending on what you prioritize.

Here’s a breakdown of the three options:

  • Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel: This hotel is centrally located in Wan Chai, close to the MTR, Star Ferry, and many restaurants. Rooms are modern and comfortable, and some have harbour views. It is well-rated for convenience and service. Prices for two nights in January are often within your £400-£450 budget, depending on booking deals.
  • Lanson Place Hotel: Known for serviced apartments and spacious rooms, Lanson Place is ideal if you prefer more space, a small kitchenette, or longer stays. Located near Causeway Bay, it is close to shopping areas and the MTR. For a two-night stay, the cost can sometimes approach the upper end of your budget, but it offers excellent comfort and a quieter environment compared to busier hotel districts.
  • The Hopewell Hotel: This is a business hotel near Wan Chai, offering basic but clean rooms. It is functional, but the facilities and style are more dated compared to Renaissance or Lanson Place. If your main priority is a convenient location and lower cost, it can work well, but for a short stopover with sightseeing, the comfort may feel limited.

Additional advice:

  • Check recent guest reviews, especially regarding room size and breakfast options, as these vary between hotels.
  • Book early, as late January can have higher occupancy due to events and the Lunar New Year period approaching in February.
  • If convenience and transport access are your main priorities, Renaissance is a solid choice. If space and comfort matter more, Lanson Place is worth considering even if slightly pricier.

Overall, all three hotels are in good locations for a short stay, with Renaissance and Lanson Place being slightly better for comfort and convenience, while The Hopewell is more basic but budget-friendly.
