Here’s a detailed guide for your day trip from Hong Kong Airport to Ngong Ping 360 (NP360) and then to Central:
1) Airport Bus S1 payment:
- The Airport Bus S1 from Hong Kong Airport to Tung Chung Station accepts both cash (HKD) and Octopus card. Credit cards are generally not accepted on this bus.
- For children under 12, a child fare applies. You can pay the adult and child fares in cash or use an Octopus card for convenience.
- Using an Octopus card is faster as you don’t need exact change, and it can be used for later transport in Hong Kong as well.
2) NP360 tickets:
- It is recommended to buy NP360 tickets online in advance, especially on a Saturday, as weekends are busy. This guarantees your preferred time slot for the cable car.
- Promotional prices or combo tickets may be available on the official NP360 website or through authorized online travel platforms. These sometimes include extras like the bus to Ngong Ping Village or discounts for children.
- Consider the “Crystal Cabin” only if you want the glass-bottom experience; otherwise, the standard cabin is sufficient.
3) Traveling from NP360/Buddha to Central:
- After visiting the Big Buddha and Ngong Ping Village, walk to Tung Chung Station. From there, take the MTR Tung Chung Line towards Hong Kong Island and transfer at Hong Kong Station to reach Central. Total travel time is around 45–50 minutes.
- Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Ngong Ping Village to Central if you prefer a faster and more direct route, but it is more expensive and can be affected by traffic.
- If you plan to return via bus, some sightseeing buses also operate from Ngong Ping Village to Central, but they are slower than the MTR.
Tips:
- Start early, especially on weekends, to avoid long queues for the cable car and Big Buddha.
- Check the NP360 website for operational hours, as the last cable car returns can be earlier than sunset.
- Carry Octopus cards for easy payment across buses, MTR, and even some shops.
In summary, pay S1 bus with cash or Octopus card, buy NP360 tickets online in advance for best time and price, and return to Central via MTR from Tung Chung Station for a fast and convenient journey.
