Clean and Non-Smoking Accommodation in Guangzhou in Oct

Hi there,

We'll be arriving at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport around 9 PM on Friday, 17 October, and leaving for Zhangjiajie (from South Railway Station) by bullet train on Sunday, 19 October.

We’re looking for recommendations on where to stay for two nights — ideally a clean, comfortable, mid-range hotel in a non-smoking environment, as we’re quite sensitive to smoke (and understand that smoking is quite common in China).

Convenient access to public transport or easy travel to/from the airport and railway station would also be a big plus.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

For a short stay in Guangzhou with a focus on clean, non-smoking accommodations and convenient transport links, there are several good options. Since you’ll be arriving late at Baiyun Airport and departing via Guangzhou South Railway Station, staying in the Tianhe or Haizhu districts is generally convenient for airport access and high-speed train connections.

Here are some recommended mid-range hotels that are known for cleanliness and have non-smoking rooms:

  • Holiday Inn Guangzhou Airport – Located very close to the airport, this hotel offers modern, clean rooms with non-smoking options. Convenient if you arrive late and want to rest immediately.
  • Jinjiang Inn (Guangzhou Pazhou Exhibition Center) – Comfortable, affordable, and with non-smoking rooms. It’s near Metro Line 8, which provides good access to various parts of Guangzhou, including the high-speed rail connections.
  • Fraser Suites Guangzhou – In the Tianhe district, offering serviced apartments with full non-smoking rooms, good for sensitive travelers. Metro access and airport transfer services are available.
  • City Comfort Inn – Guangzhou South Railway Station – Convenient if your priority is getting to the South Railway Station easily for your bullet train to Zhangjiajie. Clean, mid-range pricing, non-smoking rooms.

Tips for your stay:

  • Always specify “non-smoking” when booking, as smoking is still common in many hotels in China.
  • Consider hotel shuttle services or taxi apps for late-night airport arrival to avoid delays.
  • Check for metro accessibility if you plan to explore Guangzhou briefly before your train journey.

By choosing hotels near either the airport or Guangzhou South Railway Station, you can minimize transit time while ensuring a comfortable and smoke-free stay. Booking in advance is recommended, especially for mid-October, as it is close to the National Day holiday period when domestic travel is busy.
