Hotels/wineries

My husband and I (early 60's) are planning a trip to Temecula at the end of July. We are torn between staying in Old Town or a winery Hotel. I just was wondering if you could give me some pros and cons of each. Any Insider information on which wineries or restaurants is always appreciated. This is our first time in Temecula. We will be staying about 6 days. With a day trip to Palm Springs. We don't have children so an adult Vibe is the way we go. Thank you in advance

Temecula offers two distinct experiences depending on whether you stay in Old Town or at a winery hotel. Each has its advantages and may suit different preferences for a 6-day adult-focused trip.

Staying in Old Town

  • Pros: Central location with easy walking access to boutique shops, restaurants, tasting rooms, and local events. Evening strolls and historic architecture give a charming vibe. Great for exploring without needing a car for daily outings.
  • Cons: Less immersed in the vineyard atmosphere and countryside views. It can feel busier or touristy, especially on weekends.
  • Recommended Restaurants & Spots:
    • Old Town Winery – casual tasting experience with local charm.
    • Rustic Eatery – casual American cuisine with good reviews.
    • Monte De Oro Coffee & Pastry – nice stop for breakfast or light snack before heading out.

Staying at a Winery Hotel

  • Pros: Scenic vineyard views, peaceful surroundings, and direct access to tastings on-site. Many wineries offer on-site restaurants with wine pairings, making evenings relaxing without driving. Ideal for a slow, indulgent experience with a luxury or boutique feel.
  • Cons: Typically requires a car to access Old Town or other wineries, less walkable nightlife. Can be more expensive than Old Town accommodations.
  • Recommended Wineries with Hotels:
    • South Coast Winery Resort – large property, on-site dining, spa, and tastings.
    • Temecula Creek Inn – golf and vineyard views, quieter stay.
    • Wilson Creek Winery – known for almond champagne and scenic setting; great for photos and relaxing tastings.

Additional Tips for Your Trip

  • Consider splitting your stay: a few nights in Old Town for convenience and local dining, and a few nights at a winery hotel for a relaxed, vineyard experience.
  • Plan a day trip to Palm Springs mid-trip; leaving early in the morning avoids traffic and gives you maximum time in the city.
  • Book winery tastings and dinners in advance, as summer weekends can be busy.

Overall, if you prefer walkable, lively surroundings with easy dining options, Old Town is ideal. If your priority is scenic beauty, wine-focused relaxation, and a luxurious vibe, a winery hotel is the better choice.
