Sports bars/ bars
We are a family from UK staying in Miami Beach in August. Two teens ages 19 and 15. I am aware the eldest is below legal drinking age is the states however can we all visit a sports bar if they are drinking soft drinks? They would like to experience the bar/game day experience of some sort.
In the United States, the legal drinking age is 21, so anyone under that age cannot legally consume alcohol. However, it is generally allowed for minors to be present in a bar or sports bar as long as they are not drinking alcohol. Many restaurants and sports bars serve non-alcoholic beverages, and families with teens are often welcome during daytime or early evening hours.
Here are some key points to keep in mind for visiting sports bars in Miami Beach with teens:
- Time of Day Matters: Many sports bars allow families during lunch or early evening hours. Late-night hours are usually restricted to adults only.
- Soft Drinks Only for Minors: Your teens can enjoy sodas, iced tea, lemonade, or mocktails. Waitstaff may ask for ID to verify age if there are mixed groups.
- Restaurant-Style Sports Bars: Places that function as full-service restaurants often have more lenient policies for families, and you can still enjoy the “game day experience” with TVs, sports décor, and energetic atmosphere.
- Seating and Areas: Some bars have a separate lounge or patio area where alcohol is served, and other areas for families — it’s worth asking when you arrive or making a reservation.
Here are a few sports bars in Miami Beach that are known to be family-friendly during the day and evening:
- Big Pink – While not a traditional sports bar, it has large TVs, casual atmosphere, and extensive non-alcoholic drink options. Family-friendly during daytime hours.
- American Social – Has a lively sports atmosphere with TVs showing major games; allows minors with adult supervision during earlier hours.
- Monty’s Sunset – Waterfront location, family-friendly early in the day, great for watching games and enjoying soft drinks.
- Tequila Sunrise – Many locals suggest checking with the staff, but daytime hours are generally fine for families to enjoy the sports bar vibe without alcohol.
Tips for a Positive Experience
- Call ahead to confirm family-friendly hours and policies.
- Arrive earlier in the day to ensure seating and avoid any age restrictions later in the evening.
- Encourage the teens to order mocktails or specialty soft drinks to feel part of the experience.
- Consider picking sports bars with food menus and multiple TVs rather than pure bars to ensure a welcoming atmosphere.
Overall, your teens can absolutely enjoy the sports bar experience in Miami Beach as long as they stick to soft drinks and you choose times and venues that are family-friendly. Early evening is usually the safest bet.
