Train ticket
Hello i be travelling to China with a tour but the tour doesn't include tha Terracotta worriers and im gonna extend my stay for 4 days extra to visit the Worriers from Beijing. Can someone tell me which website to buy train tickets please? Appreciate your help. Thank you.
Visiting the Terracotta Warriors from Beijing is a popular extension, and taking a train is one of the fastest and most convenient options. The city you’ll be traveling to is Xi’an, where the Terracotta Army is located about 40 minutes outside the city center.
Train options: From Beijing to Xi’an, you have high-speed trains (G or D trains) and conventional trains (T or K trains). High-speed trains are recommended because they take around 4.5–6 hours, are comfortable, and depart frequently throughout the day. Conventional trains are slower, taking 10–12 hours, and are less convenient for a short extension.
Websites to buy train tickets: Tickets can be purchased online in advance. Reliable options include:
- 12306 China Railway official website: https://www.12306.cn. This is the official ticketing website operated by China Railway. You need to create an account and it can be used to book high-speed and conventional train tickets. Note that the interface is in Chinese, but English instructions are available, and foreign passports can be used for booking.
- CTrip (Trip.com): https://www.trip.com. Very popular with foreigners, offers English interface, supports foreign credit cards, and allows booking high-speed trains between Beijing and Xi’an.
- China Highlights: https://www.chinahighlights.com. Offers train ticket booking with English support and optional delivery or collection assistance.
- Other travel agencies: Websites like TravelChinaGuide.com or Klook also allow train ticket bookings for foreigners and may include seat selection.
Tips for booking and travel:
- Book tickets as early as possible, especially for July–October, which are busy travel months.
- Have your passport handy when booking, as it is required for verification at ticket pickup or boarding.
- If using 12306, tickets must typically be collected at the station with your passport before boarding, though some travel agencies offer delivery or electronic tickets for foreign travelers.
- High-speed trains depart from Beijing West Station and arrive at Xi’an North Station. From Xi’an North Station, you can take a taxi or local transport to your hotel or the Terracotta Warriors site.
In summary, using CTrip or 12306 is the most straightforward way for a foreign traveler to secure high-speed train tickets from Beijing to Xi’an for your visit to the Terracotta Warriors.
