LAX to Santa monica metro station
Hi is there a metro route from LAX to Santa Monica metro station?
I will not be driving when I arrive in September. So looking to travel around the metro to get about.
Thank you for any help.
Yes, there is a convenient public transit option from LAX to the Metro Expo Line that goes to Santa Monica. While there is no direct subway from the airport to Santa Monica, you can combine the LAX “G” Shuttle (or FlyAway bus) with the Metro Expo Line for a smooth trip.
Here’s a step-by-step breakdown:
- Step 1: Take the LAX “G” Shuttle – From any terminal at LAX, board the free LAX “G” Shuttle to the Aviation/LAX Metro Station. This shuttle runs frequently and takes about 10–15 minutes depending on traffic inside airport grounds.
- Step 2: Board the Metro C Line (Green Line) – At Aviation/LAX Station, take the Metro C Line (Green Line) train toward Norwalk. Ride for just one stop to the Aviation/I-105 Transfer Station.
- Step 3: Transfer to Metro E Line (Expo Line) – At the transfer station, walk to the Expo Line platform and board the train toward Downtown Santa Monica. The train will take you all the way to the Downtown Santa Monica Station, located near the Santa Monica Pier and Third Street Promenade.
Alternative option:
- LAX FlyAway Bus to Union Station – The FlyAway Bus is a direct, paid service from LAX to Union Station in Downtown LA. From Union Station, you can catch the Metro Expo Line westbound to Santa Monica. This option may take slightly longer and is more expensive but is comfortable with luggage.
Tips:
- Buy a TAP card at the station or online to use for both Metro trains and buses. It costs $2 for the card, and you can load fare as needed.
- Expect the total travel time to be about 60–75 minutes from airport to Santa Monica station depending on wait times and transfers.
- Check real-time schedules in September via the LA Metro app or website to ensure smooth connections.
Overall, using the Metro with the LAX shuttle is an affordable and reliable way to get to Santa Monica without a car.
