Date shake

I have never had a date shake and am wondering where the best place to buy one is.

I will be staying at the Movie Colony hotel. I heard that Shields Date Garden would be good but I won’t have a car and I am not sure it would be worth a long Uber ride.

Date shakes are a classic Palm Springs treat, and you’re in luck—there are a few great options even if you don’t have a car.

Shields Date Garden is the most famous spot for date shakes and a true desert icon. They have a wide variety of shakes, including traditional Medjool date shakes and blended flavors. The location is about 10-15 minutes by car from the Movie Colony Hotel, so an Uber is feasible but might feel like a bit of a trek just for a shake. If you decide to go, it’s worth it for the full experience, which includes samples of dates and their famous date candies.

Closer to your hotel, there are some alternative options:

  • Wilma & Frieda’s Café: Located in downtown Palm Springs, they sometimes offer date shakes on their menu, especially in season. It’s about a 5-minute drive from the Movie Colony area.
  • Local juice bars and ice cream shops: Many places downtown offer variations of date shakes or date smoothies. Check places like Koffi or Ernest Coffee—they occasionally feature date shakes or date-based drinks.
  • Hotel concierge or nearby cafés: Ask your Movie Colony Hotel concierge; sometimes hotels have partnerships with local cafés that serve date shakes or can suggest the best quick-access option without needing a long ride.

In summary, Shields Date Garden is the classic choice and worth visiting if you want the full experience, but if you prefer something closer, downtown Palm Springs has a few cafés and coffee shops that can satisfy your date shake craving without a long Uber ride. You could even combine a short downtown stroll with grabbing a shake for a more leisurely experience.
