Hawaii bus system for dummies

Ok, so I'm not a total dummy but I'm trying to figure out how to take a bus from Pearl Harbor over to the Aloha stadium. I see there are bus stops by the Pearl Harbor attraction center but which one do I take over to the stadium? Yeah I could walk but I'm 67 and will be with my 71 year sister in law. After all the walking at Pearl Harbor and then anticipated walking at the swap meet, I want to save my legs with a bus ride. Bonus if someone can tell me which bus to take back to the cruise port!! Thanks!!

Using the Honolulu Bus system, also known as “TheBus,” is a convenient and affordable way to get around Oahu, including traveling between Pearl Harbor and the Aloha Stadium. Here’s a clear step-by-step guide for your trip:

Getting from Pearl Harbor to Aloha Stadium:

  • From the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, you will need to walk to the nearby bus stop on Arizona Memorial Drive or Nimitz Highway. The closest stop is usually right outside or just a short walk from the Visitor Center entrance.
  • Take TheBus Route #20, which runs between the Pearl Harbor area and Aloha Stadium. Confirm the direction of the bus with the driver or posted signage—look for buses heading toward “Aloha Stadium / Honolulu”.
  • The bus ride typically takes about 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic. The Aloha Stadium stop is right near the stadium entrance and the swap meet area.
  • Have exact fare ready ($3 per adult, cash only) or use a HOLO card if you have one. Drivers cannot provide change.

Exploring the Swap Meet and Stadium Area:

  • The Aloha Stadium Swap Meet is right next to the bus stop, so you won’t need to walk far after getting off the bus.
  • Take your time visiting the vendors, but remember that the last buses leave the area around 4:00–5:00 PM, depending on the schedule, so plan accordingly.

Returning to Pearl Harbor / Cruise Port:

  • To get back, simply take the same Route #20 bus heading toward Pearl Harbor / Ford Island.
  • Confirm with the driver that the bus will stop near the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center or the cruise port area. If your ship is at Aloha Tower or nearby, you may need to get off at a central stop and walk a short distance.
  • Check TheBus website or download their app for real-time schedules, as bus times can vary depending on the day of the week.

Additional Tips:

  • Bring water and wear comfortable shoes since there will still be some walking involved, even with the bus ride.
  • If mobility is a concern, note that most buses are wheelchair-accessible and have priority seating for seniors.
  • Allow extra time for your return trip to the cruise port, especially if you need to catch a departure time.

Following these steps should make your Pearl Harbor to Aloha Stadium trip straightforward and save your legs for enjoying the sites!
