Metrolink-Advice for Visitors

I would like to advise our wonderful visitors about the new fare structure on Metrolink.

A full day, umlimited travel on Metrolink is now Weekdays $10.00 and Seniors $5.00. This allows you to travel on any line the whole day. For example, it is possible to travel from Union Station tright to the San Clemente beach station (right on the beach) or the San Clemente Pier and back to Union Station for only $10/$5.00.

The weekend schedule is more limited and some trains do not go all the way to Oceanside/San Clemente. You can download the Metrolink schedule from the Metrolink Website and see what the possibilities are.

An added advantage is that the Metrolink pass is honored for Metro travel on bus or light rail. It is a perfect deal for those who have the time and want to see the countryside.

For visitors looking to explore Southern California using public transportation, Metrolink offers a convenient and affordable option. The new fare structure makes it particularly attractive for day trips and sightseeing outside of Los Angeles.

Here are the key details about Metrolink fares and travel:

  • Weekday Full-Day Pass: Unlimited travel for the day costs $10 for regular passengers and $5 for seniors. This pass allows travel on any Metrolink line throughout the day.
  • Weekend Travel: The weekend schedule is more limited, and some trains do not go all the way to Oceanside or San Clemente. Visitors should check the weekend schedule in advance to plan their trips.
  • Integration with Metro: The Metrolink pass is valid for travel on Metro buses and light rail, providing a flexible way to explore local areas once you reach your train destination.

Example trips using the weekday pass:

  • Travel from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles to San Clemente Beach Station or the San Clemente Pier and back for just $10 (or $5 for seniors).
  • Combine Metrolink and Metro light rail/bus to see nearby towns, beaches, or attractions without needing a car.

Additional advice for visitors:

  • Download the Metrolink schedule before your trip to plan your connections and ensure your intended destinations are covered.
  • Arrive a little early at Union Station to purchase your pass and check train times, especially if you are traveling during peak hours.
  • Take advantage of the Metro integration to explore areas like Long Beach, Pasadena, or Orange County beyond your Metrolink stop.

Overall, Metrolink’s new full-day pass provides a budget-friendly way to see Southern California, enjoy the beaches, and explore the countryside without the hassle of driving or parking.
