northern lights or red rocks
Hello everyone! We are in sedona for a night. We drive in from Grand Canyon on the 24th noon and check out on the 25th to Vegas. We are looking to book flight in either one of these ( northern lights or red rocks ) which one would you recommend and why ?
In our very short stay is there anything else that we should tick off in Sedona ? Thank you.
For a very short stay in Sedona — essentially one night — you’ll want to prioritize experiences that give you the best views of the landscape and make the most of your limited time. Between the “Northern Lights” and “Red Rocks” flights, here’s what to consider:
Flight Options
- Red Rocks Flight:
- Focuses on Sedona’s iconic red rock formations, canyons, and landmarks.
- Offers breathtaking aerial views of Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte, and Oak Creek Canyon.
- Duration is usually 30–60 minutes, which fits perfectly with a short itinerary.
- Ideal if you want the classic Sedona experience and iconic photos.
- Northern Lights Flight:
- Note: Sedona is not a location where you can see the aurora borealis (Northern Lights). These are only visible much farther north, such as Alaska, Canada, or Scandinavia. This flight may be named after a company or a “sunset/glow” experience rather than the actual Northern Lights.
- If this flight is in Sedona, it’s likely more of a scenic or sunset tour rather than aurora viewing. Check carefully what the flight actually covers.
Recommendation:
Given your short stay, I strongly recommend the Red Rocks flight. It maximizes your Sedona experience, ensures you see the most iconic landscapes, and fits well with a tight schedule. You won’t be able to see the Northern Lights in Sedona, so that option is not applicable here.
Other Must-Do Activities in Sedona (for a short stay)
- Chapel of the Holy Cross: A stunning architectural landmark built into the red rocks with panoramic views. Great for a quick stop and photos.
- Bell Rock or Cathedral Rock Vista Points: Even a short hike or just stopping at the trailheads gives you iconic Sedona views.
- Oak Creek Canyon Scenic Drive: If you have time, the drive along this canyon offers beautiful views and photo opportunities.
- Sunset Viewing: Airport Mesa or Red Rock State Park have accessible sunset viewpoints — Sedona sunsets are remarkable and fit nicely into a short visit.
- Optional Quick Hike: If you enjoy walking, the Bell Rock Pathway or a portion of the West Fork Trail can be done in an hour or so for a taste of Sedona’s hiking.
In summary, focus your one night in Sedona on the Red Rocks flight and a couple of key scenic stops like Chapel of the Holy Cross and Airport Mesa for sunset. This will give you a memorable experience without feeling rushed.
